Is there a temp and fuel gauge from a 57 and later ford car or truck that is the same size as a 56 fairlane. Does not have to look the same except for being black. I have heard the 57 tbird gauges can be used but they are very proud of them. I am going to use an adjustable instrument cluster voltage regulator with them.

Look at 1973 F150. Might work

What’s wrong with what you have? Both can be rebuilt. My fuel gauge is a little goofy after putting a new sender but I know what it means. I had to shorten the float by bending the float rod into Z’s.

  4. I've replaced burned out Ford gauges with gauges from newer or different Fords many times. Some Chrysler products and AMC products will work as well. You can also sometimes switch faceplates if you're careful. There are lots of gauges you could use with a bit of looking around you should be able to find something that will work.

Just a note here. Original 1956 Ford gauges used 12 volts for power. 1957 and later used 6 volt gauges with a voltage regulator to power the gauges. Of course, earlier Fords used 6 volt gauges as well. You might find a '55 or earlier gauge that would work for you. If you can find 6 volt gauges for your '56 make sure you do use a voltage regulator to power them or you will burn them out.

    Good luck.

I put a couple of Stewart Warner guages in my '56. They fit perfectly. I installed one in place of the idiot light for my oil pressure. Can't remembe what the other swap was. It's only been 60 years.

Probably a volt or amp in place of the clock. The 56 oil pressure was a combo with the generator light.
