Are there any Chevy II 4 cylinder motors or Mercury Marine Chevy II 4 cylinders left in the country? I built my first 32 roadster back in 71/72 and used one with a power-glide. I drove it everywhere with no problems. It was kind of a dog but worked well. Car went thru a couple owners and ended up with Paul Gommi who I think installed a V8? I believe Jake has one in his new Blue A roadster. I have a friend in Missouri who has quite a few, he used to race them in his midgets.
I gave mine away, out of my avatar, to my son's army friend who completely rebuilt it. He was happy as can be to get it. Larry
Were also used in forklifts(& other industrial) & other marine companies besides Mercruiser. The 151's were raced in full midgets, not 1/4 midgets. There's a FULL post on here about them.
have three in the garage. lots in WI . A lot have freeze cracked blocks . The 3.0 / 183 are harder to find but there out there . Forklifts , sweepers , arial equipmnet , OMC/ cobera had them in boats to . Ther still available new for industial applications . There is a good thread on them here .
drtcrV8-8. I corrected my thread, I was just assuming, I know nothing about small race cars except what I used to see when Bellville hosted the antique race car nats.
Still have four or five shoved under my pallet racking someplace. They are all leftovers from my vintage midget race car days in the late 1980's. Midget is long gone and has been restored with a V8/60 flathead by the new owner. I am keeping them around just in case I get a burst of energy and decide to put one in my 1953 Willys Jeep. They were a great swap back in the day. As someone else has mentioned, if they came out of an inboard boat, there is a good chance that the owner forgot to drain the lake water out at the end of the season and there will be a horizontal crack under the intake/exhaust manifolds in the side of the block.
Its a dragster I am building for myself as an homage to the early beginnings of drag racing when a couple of guys (Car Club) put something together. Came up with the Chevy II idea for the engine and to really stir-the-pot, machined and fabricated the Potvin supercharger drive. MQQN still had the blower discharge manifold and front cover which helped in the decision. Everthing (except some internal engine components) has to have been available at that time
Years ago, came across a set of chassis prints from that time. Personally I would never build a car that ugly on my own if I didnt have the prints--- thats what makes it cool
lots of good tech on here in the searches and if you make an intake the Vortec head makes good power. I searched for a couple years for the boat/industrial but most I found in the midwest had cracked blocks from improper winter storage.
krylon32 : No harm/no foul! I was just trying to visualize how to mount a chev II engine on a go-kart... LOL!
that's a cool looking banger. is the bell housing a stock piece? trying to gather parts as well and would like to run a manual trans not sure what works. thanks

I bought 5 mercruiser 3.0's for 100 bucks last summer, none had cracks. Most have sunk valve seats and that why they were pulled. I am working on a mechanical injector for one based on deracecar's intake.
Yes I did see your adapter. I assumed the rear part may be alum. All my heads are 181 8 port heads. The intake ports are huge compared to the VW intakes. Mine will never be a racecar so willing to over look that part. Trying to make something to go with my other Mercruiser 3.7.
Great engine. In the 70's US postal Jeeps were a plentiful source for them. I built one with some dress-up parts and dual side draft Webbers for friends T bucket. Another engine that can be dressed up and has a bit more performance potential is the Quad Four. Sadly the hay days of readily available performance parts for both engines are past, but there are some still out there.
I have a 153 in my garage. I have saved it for years, but I have too many projects. I would like to sell it. I am in central NJ.
have this distributor for the 153 Chevy anyone know a part numbers so i may purchase the internals. my local parts store said good luck. also no vacuum advance on this thing will it cause any issues?
