This is Forest Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach...1933. The photo taken from across the street on the beach sand side of the highway. Hello, My wife and I bought an inexpensive house in this coastal community. We had saved up for a rainy day and it was now raining cats and dogs.. So to speak. It happened that our landlady of our apartment was a real loser and was forcing too much on the both of us. Restrictions, allowing her obnoxious daughter to run rough shod over all of the tenants at will, without any consequences. It is lucky she did not end up floating out to sea… We thought about buying out her duplex complex, but the rates were awful for us 20 somethings and even the owner offered to carry the papers for 30 years. We did not want anything to do with her for 30 years, so we moved along to a different style of living. Up pops this new build that was affordable for us…will wonders ever cease? So, we took the plunge and purchased the house. Our first real house!!! We stayed in it for 6 years until we had to get a house with a yard for the next phase of our lives. Jnaki That corner of Laguna Beach is the absolute bottle neck of driving on Coast Highway North or definitely South. The road curves from the North into a left turn lane to get to Forest Avenue and downtown. That automatically used to block traffic on Coast Highway heading South. So, after many years, they eliminated the left turn lane. Now, Forest Avenue in the quaint downtown area is closed to through traffic and it totally pedestrian with restaurants using their outdoor platforms for dining. What about the corner of Broadway and PCH? Well, it is a main road leading into Laguna Beach from inland and consequently, the locals use it daily in their search for freeway outlets. As ex-residents, our old road choices still come in handy as it bypasses any obstruction on PCH. But, as brave as we get, we haven’t been down PCH coastal drive for many months. We knew of some construction going on before the Summer months and have been going down alternate roads. Last week, we had some business in Newport Beach and decided to make the coastal drive South to our house. Again, it was one beautiful drive and the odd thing was, since it was a Thursday, the traffic heading South at 11 am was not very thick and we made the run from Newport Harbor to Dana Point Harbor in record time. The traffic down Coast Highway, South to Main Beach and the awful intersection was relatively traffic free. Will wonders ever cease? But, we did notice that several blockages, street repair and one lane going North made it a nightmare for the northbound drivers. If we have to go North on Coast Highway, it leaves us with no choice other than to take alternative northbound measures and not the coastal route. There is always a way… YRMV
