it seems when I'm driving the Buick, that the body has a slight shake or sway to it. any way to stabilize it and make it kinda more sturdy ? thanks for any help.

That's a rather vague description; what, exactly, does it do? If it wallows in the corners, that pretty much means that it's a '55 Buick. They were set up for a cushy ride, not handling.

Body mount bushing may be worn out or missing

Check the bushings in the rear panhard bar.

in the rear I just put new knee shocks, shock links and springs. front end was done by previous owner and is tight. maybe could be body mount bushing suggested by texasred or maybe I'll check the bushings in the rear lanyard bar suggested by BJR. and to mr heathen you pretty much described what it is. wallowing in the corners is what I kind of feel but I also feel it in other area's underneath. I'll check the suggestions from everybody. car does ride nice except for the little issues. thanks for all the help guys.

A shaking sensation could also be coming from the torque tube if the inner bearing is worn (probably the biggest reason I dislike torque tube driveshafts)

'56 & 57 Buicks used a slightly larger front sway bar, this would be an upgrade. Tires & alignment might be contributors?
And of course the loose nut behind the wheel!

Slightly bent wheels will give you a wallowing feeling

I know from experience that a disconnected or inoperative rear shock on one side can make one of these cars wallow something awful. Check your new shocks to make sure they have the proper amount of fluid and if you have adjusting screws make sure they are set stiff enough and both set the same. I have had 2 that wallowed enough to make you sea sick. Both had a broken link on one side.
