Well today the Finkosel took another step toward completion. My buddy Steve finished carving and painting Surfink. Then we brought all the woodcarvings down to the Strange Days Shop. Now all I have to do is put the finishing touches on Drag Nut, and if that and ***embly can happen by the 28th of October its off to the Peterson Museum for the opening of the Big Daddy Roth Exhibit. We'll be bustin our hump trying to get this ready.. wish us luck.

There's more on the finkosel here if you're interested...

Yeah, these are a ****** to carve, cause the proportions on all of Roth's stuff are so strange. Heres a picture of Steve holding Surfink's foot after he carved it... When we started we had no idea it would be so difficult.

  8. Awesome! I love seeing this progress.

Good luck getting it done. It's going to be a big hit at the Peterson.

I just pissed all over the PC. That is the coolest, I will be there to see just that at the Peterson.

I wonder: what's the weight of a completed figurine?

A completed figure is about 120 lbs. Solid wood. This is a smaller mechanism. In my real job I build some that hold up to 36 carousel horses or 12,000 lb capacity

Was (or is) wood a personal preference? Or I guess more to the point - why not high density foam or fibergl*** (or a combo of both?). Seems like building a brick ****house. "She ain't purdy - but she's hell for stout" (which doesn't count in this case - that's friggin beautimous).

Ohh and what goes into the "drive train" part of one of those smaller "merry-go-rounds"? I mean - has to have some *** to spin 500lbs of wood and a bunch of fat little kids...but not too much ***, don't want to kill said fat *** kids.

Have an estimate of what you have wrapped up in this baby yet?

I wanted to build one for my girls, but you have me thoroughly scared away, I'll just keep feeding the machines at Chucky Cheese....

Thanks for keep us up on this stuff. You have an awesome gig man.
