S-1 Sverige, constructed by Ruben Östlund 1929 the mission, be the worlds fastest boat, due to the Wall Street crash the boat never got done, but alot years later a group finished the boat, complete with two 27litres RR Meteor engines, they have reached 80 knots with it but with a high price, 2015 the boat crashed bad and sunk, but they had it repaired a couple years later
With double chrysler v8s it was a sweet ride, I belive i got a video from that ride somewhere. Also got a video of the s1 Sverige with the double meteor engines
Looking for a "wood deck flatbottom with a 409" I need a "Dolly trailer built???" "Any 409 marine parts out there"
Hello, It was close to the end of a series of hot summer days, but being on the water’s edge was appealing. Not only was the water giving off some cooling effects, but the action on the water was heating up at the 1967 Drag Boat Championships at the Long Beach Marine Stadium leading into the Alamitos Bay area. So, how does a 671 supercharged Hemi Hydro hull racer start his boat? Well, there were no rollers like the dragstrips, no push starts, so what does the driver do? He leans back with his fuel squirt gun and gives a couple of shots into the injectors and hits the start button. Simple… just like some of the early drag racers at Lion’s Dragstrip located about 10 miles away. (unless they did the well liked, push starts down the track...) Jnaki The hydro hull looked stable at high speeds of the fairly glassy surface of the Marine Stadium. There is plenty of space at the end of the course to shut down or turn around to make the trip back to the “Pits.” One day the following year, my wife and I were in a small rowboat going all over the Long Beach harbor and Alamitos Bay. Plenty of photo opportunities, but to cap it off, we parked at a buoy marking the end of the Marine Stadium course. We were just resting and enjoying the sounds of the full acceleration of the drag racing boats. There were other folks anchored in the general vicinity. We had no anchor, so we tied up to the buoy. Then, after several high speed runs, one hydro hull top fuel racer’s boat made a wonderful run down the quarter mile inside of the Marine Stadium. All day, others were making the run and after slowing down, made the turnabout to go back to the pits. Well, this hydro hull was coming a little too fast after the end of the timed course. So, we noticed that others in their boats were pulling up their anchors and starting up their motors. This drag boat was heading our way and he could not turn at high speed without flipping over. Behind us was the answer, continue across where we were all anchored or tied to the buoy and continue across under the Bridge into the Alamitos Bay Harbor to let the fuel run out. But, first, he had to come our way to get to the open bay waters. The other side of the channel buoy had the majority of the boats anchored. Our side had us tied to the buoy and several other small boats, also, anchored. So, we all instantly panicked and started gathering everything to get out of the way. Would you know it but, our outboard motor did not start or would not start. So, out came the oars and I was turning around and rowing away at high speed…ha! High speed indeed. But, as we got about 10 yards away, my wife looked back and said the drag boat just stopped several feet from the buoy, where we were tied up to during the day. Whew!!! Out of gas and saved several lives in the process… YES!!! 1967 Long Beach Marine Stadium
Springtime, bring on the boats! I've got my dad's old alumacraft double cockpit aluminum boat sitting at my barn I decided to restore this summer. Gonna do a rear centered steering wheel anf throw dad's old 59 golden jubilee 18 hp evinrude on the back. I'll post some pics when I get Goin.... I believe I already posted pics of the motor on this thread somewhere....
