  3. Borrowed a set or 5.25 and 7.00 16’s from my brother to see what it looked like. The front end looks good, back is all stock and needs to come down 3”. I think I may go with 5.50’s up front. Hub caps are Beanies, not
Sure on cap or wheel color yet. Also tried a pair of 41 Super Deluxe bumpers on it, which are my favorite on any pre war Ford. Luckily they match the coupe as far as condition

Damn that thing looks good! And congratulations on finding your unicorn! The 41 bumpers are a great touch! Can’t wait to see it closer to the earth and rolling around

What color is that paint? It's perfect in my opinion it looks kind of off-white almost green tint to it or something? Great car great score!

  9. Now that's my kind of '40, just a tad edgy in the right places, and slick where it matters.

The louver diaper is a hoot, in a good way.

That paint reminds me of an exchange we had on here a few years back when you were "saving" the paint on a truck. The way that white is letting go of the original CMG it would be wonderful if you could get back to the paint underneath. If not, the white is period accurate and has it's own character.

    Another nice score Chris!
I think I'm going to start a new business making "Great Granny's Louver Panties" :D

  11. Chris, is that 5.25 front tire about 24.5 to 25 inches tall?

  12. Coker’s website shows them as being 26.5” tall, I can measure the actual size of this one later

  13. I would never do anything with the paint on this car, although Cloud Mist is my favorite 40 color. The first thing that drew me in when I saw this car was the milky color. It just screams “HOT ROD”, to me anyway

  14. it’s a very milky white. I’m not sure if the ever so slight green tint is the color, so the original color behind it tinting it a little. Whatever it is, the paint/color is one of my favorite things about this car

Thanks for the nod buddy but where do you think I got them from? I fell in love with them on @Chris 's roadster and he happened to have a spare set.

  19. I have a spare scrip rear bumper, it is strait but needs replated

Like the rake…wheel radius, is a street rod thing…not a bad thing, just modern thinking.

  23. Alright, enough screwing around. I pulled the nose back off so that I can get this thing going. I’m super stoked not only how much is done to this car, but how nice it is. It’s like it was getting restored, but mildly hotrodded. The cars tie rod was bent up from I’m assuming a floor jack. I removed it and found one I had that was close and modified it to work. Cleaned it and painted it, installed it and aligned the car. Then I pulled the stock shocks off and dug around in my stash and came up with some upper shock mounts and lower studs that go in the stock shock link eye on the perch pin. Mocked up an inner fender to make sure it will work. I need to modify the drag link or make a new one, as the stock one is too long after lowering the car.
I ordered 3 “Runtz” for the gauges, and need to change all the lights from 6V to 12V. Jimmy White at Circle City told me they had the generator changed to 12V, along with the regulator, starter and starter solenoid…but never got to bulbs and gauges. If anyone has ever updated a 1940 Ford and happen to have all the 12V bulb numbers, I would be grateful

  24. On my '41 I played around with different bulbs of various brightness for the dash. I ended up going with some warm white leds to get decent light (the warm was to make it look like incandescent bulbs). The dash is the mini bayonet base (BA9S) and the incandescent bulb is #53. The tail light should be a 1157 for 12v (BAY15D base), the headlights are 7" round sealed beam. To me the best sealed beams are the Sylvania SilverStars BUT they don't last very long, so a regular H6024 would be fine. The license plate light should be a #67 (BA15s base).

  25. awesome, thank you!!

  27. Tonight I installed my little voltage reducers for the gauges as well as a chrome face for the gauge panel. Hooked a battery to it and seems pretty much everything works. Poured a little gas in it, and it fired! So next will be firing it up and breaking it in. I have a set of “skips pumps” that were for my 41 pickup, so I swapped those on tonight. The car had Bob Drake pumps on it, and they were probably fine…but I use Skips pumps on everything and have good luck with them

Yup, I got good at chalking tires but this is better than slicing bread

  29. We did something similar on the stock cars, we would glue aluminum blocks to the wheels with a hot glue gun, the blocks were tapped to hold a piece of aluminum angle across it. With luck, it held unless someone bumped it too hard.

  30. Tonight I buttoned up few things, checked all the fluid, and decided to fire it up. Broke it in, runs like a watch. I did notice some red “wax” dripping from the generator. Not sure if it’s smoked or ?
