What a beauty...Obviously inspired by Earl's Coupe...I wouldn't have changed a thing. Did the owner you know reintegrate just the 1/4 window and leave the rest as is or reconfigure it all? I'm almost afraid to ask.... Was that a Canadian build? Quite the engine selection too...I'm with John I'd love either in my collection...and they sure wouldn't have any dust on them...
So, the one above I posted isn`t his. That appeared in Rodders Journal sitting in front of the Ford Dealership in 1950 as someone mentioned earlier in this thread.
We have place in Parker, AZ and only recently found out that one of my neighbors was good friends with Bruce, cared for him til the end and owns the chopped coupe. He also has some fantastic stories about Bruce.
We were on our honeymoon in January of 1978 and I spotted Earle’s car down around San Diego. Didn’t get to meet the man but I sure would have liked to.
Im sorry, but anyone that would fill in the quarter windows on a 40 coupe shouldnt be allowed to own one. Guess this will stir up a hornets nest.
Once again my Daughter has encouraged me to share some old family stories. Earle picked my Father’s red flamed 40 coupe at the 40’s limited run years ago (20?) for the Dynamite Flames Award Earle hand made this trophy and was quite excited about the “bomb” like award He loved my Fathers 40 and spent along time talking with us about everything you can imagine. After that a friendship was made and wherever we crossed paths with him you could count on a long session of deep talking was going to happen and whoever was around Bruce would ALWAYS make sure it was known that he built my Dad a “ bomb”. He was a very interesting guy and had really great stories. Here is the trophy This is my Father’s 40 I have photos (real film photos) of the day the award was handed out with the car, my Father and Bruce but alas I can’t seem to locate them in the huge archive (two big boxes lol)
