i’m guessing my front drums are out of round. when i hit the brake i get a thump thump thump while stoping. it’s not the back. feel it in steering. how much can you turn down the drums. front end starts shaking and pulls to the left

  2. Brakes don't generally Thump, they grab and pull or do nothing. I'd be looking at my Tires real close first.

  3. If it's been sitting a long while, rust may have built up on the drum and thumps on each revolution. It needs to come apart for inspection to see what's going on.

  4. Had that thump, thump happen to me once and it turned out that a brake drum was cracked

.060 " is the maximum safe oversize. It does sound like an out of round situation. If I was you I'd spring for new drums, available from any early Ford parts vendor. You would need the longer studs they take, also available. You might take the new drums to some place that has a brake lathe and have them checked for roundness before using them. I have gotten a bad one. Easily fixed.

  6. I have always heard .060 was the max (unless otherwise marked on the drum). Note that 12.000 is standard. Take them to a good shop and they will know and not turn over max.
