I am getting ready to do my front straight axle and need some advice. Been lookin at Speedways kit along with MAS. Pretty comparable. My question is can you use new "trailer" springs on cars?? They seem to be avail in all sizes and capacities............. and they are a hell of alot cheaper! Plus I can build the straight axle myself. any input??? really doing the "on the budget" thing and am just clueless....
Ask Tingler, I believe that he used trailer springs? I think the main drawback to trailer springs is that they are not designed for much travel, may or may not be an issue for you. Longer springs have more travel and a more consistent rate, due to less shape change.
I think they'ed be too stiff, and too short. I have a Model A spring you can have if you pay the shipping.
Yes, you can use trailer springs (parallel leaf) - I used them in my Rambler - been in there for 12 or more years now with an iron hemi above them. Don't expect a cadilac ride though.
thx folks, lol "cadilac ride" not in a g***er........... going to be parellel not transverse. thx again
i'm installing the speedway kit right now which isn't all that bad. its pretty heavy duty and worth the price. got everything i needed in 3 days. i do know a guy that runs an old willy's strait axle and he used trailer springs, drives that thing every where. he did say his kidneys will never be the same but its worth it.
THX 51 for the info, looks like I,m gonna do the Speedway kit also. Hard to beat good info and a full kit supplied. this board is the best!
