We took a small trip over Easter weekend by Miami University to spend time with my sister in laws family. Our niece goes there so we decided to rent a couple cabins at Heuston Woods for the weekend. Whenever we go out of town, we take our son geocaching, which is actually a lot of fun! It’s also a great way to get out in new areas and check out places you normally wouldn’t go. We left our cabin and hit the hiking trails and woods in search of the geocaches. One of them were under the upright cowl in the first picture. These were about 30 or so yards from the river next to one of the small tributaries. About 50 or so yards off one of the hiking trails. There were 3 or 4 cowls there along with what was left of the body’s. I couldn’t find any numbers or identifications but I think the cowl that is on its side on the far left of the first picture is a 26/27 T. My guess is that this property was once a farm and these cars have been here since before the lodge was built in 1967. Sure was neat to find!
From earth we were formed, to earth we shall return. A burial ground of sorts...Here I was trying to wax poetic and @flamedabone has to barge in like Indiana Jones ready to raid the cemetery!
Well almost everyone on the HAMB knows that every pic you supplied are pics of DODGEs! Just ask @VANDENPLAS....
@flamedabone I think Jim might've taken those pics for his before shots. They probably look alot better already.
Real good start if you want an over the top patina example. Actually, you probably can't call it that either. But it is nice to find stuff laying around.
It’s like a scavenger hunt using an app on your phone. When you open the app, it shows you a map with all the local geocaches. Click on whatever one you want and it gives you directions to the location. Then you have to find the geocache, which is normally some sort of container with a piece of paper and sometimes a little trinket, like a kids eraser for example. The geocache is normally hidden so you have to look for it. When you find it, you open it up, put your name and the date you found it on the paper and you can swap out the trinket with something if you choose. It may be in a hole in a tree, under a bench or under a cowl like this one. If you have little ones, it’s worth looking into to. My son loves it and it’s fun to do with him. It can be a free app or you can pay to see more geocaches in the area.
Similar but not the same. You’re thinking of Pokémon Go, at least I think that’s what it called. Same concept except with geocache, what you find is an actual thing, not just an animation on your phone.
Good catch! The photo below in my original post is right next to the cowl that the dash can be seen. Photos of a 30 Hupmobile sedan sure look to have the same body reveals, quarter window shape and rear window shape.
I tell ya what.... I'm not a scaredy cat by a long shot but that looks like prime real estate for the snake community. Or bumblebees and yeller jackets. I'm REAL perticler about stuff that "patina-ed" and poking my hands in a****st them.
Had a buddy that was into Geocaching. All fun and games until he told me he found the jar that someone replaced the trinket with poop. Madder he got, the harder I laughed...
YOU DARNED KIDS! You tryin to steal my stuff???? Get outa my woods and leave my prized collection alone! Me and my son are gunna build each and every one of them someday....
Snakes , only good one is the one I don’t see . I kill all , and God , can sort them out as to good or bad .
We have had a Geocach trinket travel around the country and Europe before someone decided to just take it. We were hoping it would come home to us. In the wind now. Yes bees and critters are a bummer when you are looking for them. Just think Mega dollar satellites in space we are pinging off of to do this. Guess we get something for our tax dollars.
years ago I made the unfortunate mistake of mentioning a stash of old cars in earshot of some ... well, "less than upright citizens", and that weekend the stash was ripped off for desirable parts and even whole cars. Because I had been heard talking about it, I was ***umed to be involved in the theft. It took months to clear that **** up. I ran into one of the miscreants long after that and the ***hole laughed about it.
