I'm not a Chevy guy, but, in highschool one of the coolest baddest cars around was a 55 Chevy 4 door that blew the doors off of everything else. Yep, it was COOL.

I’m gonna go with Jim Morrison. He did well with a extra door or two.

I enjoy mine. The looks from people when they realize how the back doors open is pretty cool to see.

  7. In the '90s I was working for a magazine, managing editor. I shot a more door merc (a '50 if I recall) hammered, nosed and decked, dropped. It was drop dead gorgeous. I saw it at a show in Des Moines and in a sea of custom mercs what caught my eye was that the guy had opened all the doors and the whole side of it opened. I do recall that he was Canadian, called Frenchy of course. His lady was from Iowa. He drove it down from Cedar Rapids to KCMO for me to shoot it, and eat beans with me and my missus. They stayed 3 days, we had more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Okay I have watching the 4 doors get bashed for a few days now. I admit I am not 4 door fanatic but I do have a few I really think should get some respect. When a 39 Sedan Convertible is built right with a good stance I think they are a good looking car. Same with the the 39-40 more doors. Just a few examples for your viewing pleasure are shown below.

I like old cars... for the most part, two doors are my preference, but it makes me cringe to see a nice enough more door cut up to be used as a parts car. It's one thing if it needs more work than it could ever be worth to be put back on the road, but running/driving four doors are often victimized. I hate wasting any old iron, but killing a whole car is a big deal to me.

ian rousselle did that with a '55 olds on one of his shows. solved the "rear entry" problem by hinging the whole 4-door front seatback.

The only 4 door id buy is a 54-57 olds 88 Holiday hard top. Best looking 4 doors IMO

This car is amazing! The feds probably caught alot of unsuspecting bad guys with that thing!

In terms of the thread- 4 doors can be just as cool as 2 doors in my opinion. I understand the allure of a 2 door but now that I have lived a few years, I understand the 4 door thing as well. I get why 2 doors are popular but they are also way more expensive. It's alot easier to find a clean 4 door than a clean 2 door. Plus us guys who have families are able to sell our wives on a project car much easier if it has more doors :). As we have seen from some of the photos in this thread, 4 doors can look just as good as 2 doors. I think the other reason why 4 doors are growing in popularity is enthusiasts are wanting to stick out more or be more individualistic and not always follow status quo. Not saying there is anything wrong with the status quo but I also understand wanting to stick out and not look like alot of the other cars out there. Like someone said up thread, it matters to me how a car has been treated throughout its life. If I was confronted with an option to buy a beat 2 door or a much cleaner 4 door, at this point in life, I would choose the 4 door because of a lack of time to work on a project. If I had way more time and the 2 door was a dream car, maybe I would choose that. Regardless of your door arrangement, I think we can all agree that we like old cars :). The more old cars and the more we can save the better. To each their own but I like 'em both...

  16. There are a couple advantages to four doors over two.....
You don't need as much side space in a garage to fully open the doors.
Late '50s/early '60s two-door doors (no, I didn't stutter) are pretty heavy compared to four-door doors.
Mid '50s four door hard tops look great IMHO

Well I might as well toss my 4 door in with the bunch (38 Zephyr). With a kid (just turned 8) having the back seat is his playground you could say. The rear suicide doors make getting in a breeze, literally grab handles on both doors and just open. So much easier in a parking lot, she has been out preferred mode of transportation daily. I have no plans on chopping it us and intend to use it as a cruiser for longer trips possibly as a tow vehicle for the "no door" I guess that makes them average 2 doors?

I picked up this '55 for the engine. Now I'm thinking of putting in a SBC and giving it to my daughter, she loves it.

Looks like your daughter has that new project Buick “nailed” down . But that car does have a good look to it! And it looks reasonably solid? If it’s a Utah car it’ll be pretty good rust wise

The '55 has rust through around the front and rear windshield. The dent on the front passenger side is the only dent in the body.

The car was from Lake Havasu, AZ.
