My wife was going through my mothers old record collection and came across this gem. For you youngsters this is an old fashioned CD, it called a record. We turned it on and "IN STEREO" its the sound of drag cars (VVVRRRRROOOOMMM) and an announcer talking between runs! It sez it was recorded at the 5th annual National Hot Rod Championship Drag Races, Detroit, Mi. Labor Day Weekend 1959. Also sez its #3 in a series. Any one else seen these or better yet have any for sale? My wifes not happy, its the start of a another collection. Also show some pics of turntables in cars.

I bought one from a HAMBer; not from a specific race but from the album cover and some of the cars mentioned it was from 61-62

It was in a narrative style and described the various cl***es and then gave the sounds

Well worth the $'s I spent on it

Some were I have a "Big Sounds of The Drags" LP that I bought in the early 1960's. For the record, it is THE ONLY record, tape, CD whatever I've ever bought in 55 years. Saved an absolute fortune on recording equipment that gets outdated every 2-3 years. My AM radio works just fine. I can't think of anything more worthless than LP records, not worth the shotgun shells to blow them away.

I've got a disc of the 1962 Panoma Winter Nationals, that includes The "Freight Train" twin chevy powered rail, and a whole bunch more. Great record, but my stereo is knackered, so I haven't heard it in a long time.

  7. Ive got a big record like that called "Soundsville" from 4th of July weekend,,,1960 in Pomona.

I've got the Sounds of the Indy Nationals LP. Very cool! Features Garlits, Kalitta, Jack Williams, Gene Schwartz, Gordon Collett, Pete Robinson, Joe Schubeck, Hubert Platt...just to name a few.

Here is the cover of my "The Big Sounds of the Drags, Vol. 2." It says it is volume 5 of the series. It came after Vol. 1...then Sounds of Sports Cars...then Drag Boats...then Go Carts...then this one. I use to have vol. 1 but the "ex" trashed it along with everything else when she vacated the premises.

I've got an album called "Bakersfield '63" that I picked out of the sale racks in a record store (remember them?) in the late '70s for $1.00.

Years after trading it off, I can still hear the cars loping from one speaker to the other on "Big Sounds Of The Drags"... the high gear starts, the missed shifts, the twin engine Chev digger ....

  12. I have the same one Godzilla has. I also have one of Craig Breedlove running the spirit of America at Bonneville, the time he went into the water. Has pictures of it with just the tail sticking out of the water. Dean

I have one of the 1964 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. It was sold by Hurst Shifters. A buddy of mine has one of the 1964 US Nationals. It was also put out by Hurst.
