I think the last one I bought new was for an Accel dist. but it also fit my YC. Since Holley owns everything, are parts available?
I find them at swap meets and ebay. Sometimes nos at pretty good prices. Other times people think they're gold.
Yes call my favorite catalog store. They can still source Mallory bits. Or if you go to NAPA Echlin makes tune up parts for mallory, I have used their tune up parts since i was in high school.
You can still get a cap with a female ends but I don't think anyone makes the old style two piece "flat cap" anymore.
A buddy found an NOS one a year or so ago in a van or something at a junkyard. Paid used distributor pricing for it and I ended up buying it from him.
I'll echo what ElScotto said. NAPA Online Echlin #MA5 (female tower cap), Echlin #MA7 Rotor. The had been unavaialble for over a year, but I received one of each a couple months ago from NapaOnline. Hope this helps
I want to thank everyone for their input . I have 2 MA 7 rotors coming from Virginia via my local NAPA store, but the cap is " no longer available" . I'll keep up the search.
This is the Mallory section from the 2009 Echlin Illustrated Parts Guide. I don't know what may still be available.
I haven't had any luck on the MA9 yet, but I got an ACCEL cap p/n 120401 and rotor 130401 from old inventory at my local speed shop. Happy Birthday to me! It was the last ones he had and he thought left over from the 80s
I had a Mallory that came with a Mallory 24215 brown rotor but it had a 4004 black cap, the rotor struck the cap contacts. When Mallory changed the color of the caps and rotors they ground the first digit of the part number off the mold. An early brown cap, p/n 24004, will use the 24215 rotor with it’s longer contact and the later black cap p/n 4004 will use the 4215 rotor, or the MA7. I’m not aware of which Echlin rotor might work with the brown caps.
I've been buying complete Mallory rebuild kits from an industrial marine house here locally. $55 for points, condenser, cap, rotor. All really good quality hard black Bakelite. Much better than the soft MSD stuff.
