Drove to work yesterday, and then made a couple trips around to the parts store and a buddies house in town, I got home and Baby girl thought she needed to give it a whirl. . Shes really into shifting. After it got dark and I quit driving around, I did one of the few things left on the list. A heel rest! I got tired of my foot sliding all over the plate I made to rest on. so I made a steel plate cup that fits my size 13 converse perfectly. It worked pretty well on the way to work, and apparently me driving the T this week has inspired others in my office. 3 days till I leave for Texas. Last day of work before I leave. We'll find out soon enough if it will make it.
Seems like a good solution. I’ve seen people use grip tape but it’ll eat your shoes pretty quick. Is it static or hinged? Not to bad to skip your foot over to the brake?
I know you just got it on the road but I feel like you’ve already entered the “dial it in” phase which is one of the best parts of a build…refining all the little stuff for a perfectly functioning package. See you in a few days!
yeah I didn't want to rely on rubber or grit, I like something solid to put my foot against. Its purely static, and I cut it low enough I can easily flex my foot to work the pedal, and its not in the way when I hit the brake. I did find out it wont work with my flipflops without modification of the flip flop... oh yeah, there's been alot of sitting in it, figuring out what fits and what doesn't. I'm antsy to get on the road. cant wait to see all my Texas friends.
Such an exciting time, new car, a few miles to prove it then a big road trip! Looking forward to the trip report!
First things first, it happened today, on my way home a freak cloudburst soaked my butt (mostly due to slow-moving traffic). I got home and went straight to work, making the trunk floor, and then started to get everything in place and organized. after the clouds died down, I went to the parts store, got some oil, filter, and an extra belt. Once I had changed the oil, shined the tires, cleaned the windshield, and a few other things, I got to work finishing more stuff on my list. my wife sewed me up these simple seat covers for the trip. they snap to the body on the top, and tuck under the bottom seat cushion. after I got that squared away I added a couple details. my foreign coin with a turtle on it, and an old button from work. It keeps getting closer, just a couple more little things and I'll be ready to head out early monday morning!
I know you’re no stranger to uncomfortable driving but since you have the ability at all 4 corners, I’d probably raise those springs as high they’ll go for the drive. Good luck, and be sure to stop and stretch your legs in Ft. worth.
I bet he’s carrying at least one ratchet strap or a few bungee cords for any number of “just in case” occurrences!
I won’t spoil the fun of retelling the stories for him but he made it to fort worth safe last night. In case ya’ll are wondering.

He’s down closer to Austin for a few days wrenching on the car. Again adventure has followed him, everyone’s trips to the round up are memorable but this one’s a doozie
Dude drove from MO to Ft Worth in one day, drove all over DFW the next, then headed to Houston! I’d say that’s farther from Austin than he was haha. He’s nuts.
I've been wondering how it was going. Somehow I missed the updates the last few days. Glad to hear Joey is having fun.
