Hi folks - I've had this hanging on my shop wall for a few years. It was hanging around for an old project that never happened. I posted it on an unrelated site and it was identified as coming from a '36 Airstream. Googling pictures says that's pretty accurate. I can't find another example of one for sale. Overall condition is decent. Chrome is fairly pitted. Surface rust on the tin, but no cancer. Am I sitting on a gold mine here or a perpetual wall hanger?
I like grills and have a few hanging in my shop. IMO I think you have a nice piece but...yes only a wall hanger.
Definitely no gold mine, and the cost to rechrome it will blow you mind. I would go get your hammer could nails put that sweet grill back on the wall and enjoy it.
I'm gonna go a little against the flow here. I agree that it's a wall hanger here on the HAMB, but in the proper venue, it might surprise you. It's an incredibly straight part. I'd put it up on the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) website as a "what is it." I think you'd get a bunch of guys asking you if you're willing to sell it. Tell them to make you a reasonable offer. It might surprise you! The high cost of re-chroming it would be chump change on a restoration.
AACA guys=cheapskates. you couldnt get that grill chromed properly for less than 5k go hang it on the wall..........
