Far as I know No Big Thing has not been restored and is in original condition. It shows up every few years out at 41 Drag Strip in Morocco Indiana. It’s like watching a pregnant out of control roller skate go down the track though!
Opel GT's make GREAT looking gassers too. I saw open a few years back with small block Shivel-lay tunnel ram with dual quads. There was a big old black boy AT LEAST 6'5" driving it. The ignition /start button was on the overhead bar of the roll cage....ON THE PASSENGER SIDE !!! Driver just reached over (no prob) and hit the button. He was a monster!!...in a lil mini hot rod. He couldn't keep it sckrat enough to make a full-power-run Fun to watch fer sure........ 6sally6
Is that time machine a real race car from back in the day, or is it a street freak? Either way, its cool!
Looking at the way the suspension is mounted, shackles etc. and other features, I can't see that passing any tech. Doesn't look like a race car to me.
Looking at all the surrounding parked cars I would say that photo was taken early 1970's. Back then Tech inspections were much different than today to the point of saying if you had a Helmet on and a Seat belt you passed.
DITTO ! BITD...every body just wanted to compete and hoped they could win. Now....Ya know if you don't have BIG bux & or sponsor you're just burning money and breaking parts for the fun of it. + so many people are looking for that "law suit lotto" EVERYTHING has to be scrutinized or the strip is outta bus
Maybe at at an independant strip, but in the mide 60''s when my RPU was inspected at NHRA strips that half ass crap wouldn't get you through inspection.
Probably in line for a “grudge “ race. I don’t see other cars that might be in the same class. If there’s even a Street Freak class to be in. Some of us are anal retentive about bias ply tires. Some of us are that way about calling cars Gassers when they are not Gassers.
The lack of a license plate, and the race car in tow sticker on the bumper are clues this was a drag car. Maybe not a gasser, maybe it was? That picture doesn't look like the staging lanes to me, maybe the pit.
Ehhh, I dont care what they were doing, doubt is was very fast anyhow. Still it is cool looking in a odd way.
