I'm having some work done on the banjo for my 40, part of which has involved 9 inch style axle conversion, so the outer bearing carrier has been changed to suit, which means I cant bolt on the traditional lower shock mounts as the bolt pattern has changed. I really dont want to use pressed steel brackets wit loads of holes in, or those cast f=versions of the same thing. Looking for inspiration for a 'traditional' bottom shock mount, maybe something that can mount to the 36 bones I'm running, or something that welds to the bells, but nothing from 1-800 hotrodparts. Thanks
Something clean and simple like Marty and or 29 Gizmo showed that when done and painted doesn't draw attention except from the guy who is studying it to figure out how he did it. Then that should be a second or third look thing.
They wont fit because ive changed the bearing ends for 9 inch. Think Im going to use wishbone ends, I had used them on my original axle, used the ends from the bones on the axle that got split, but sold that to do this. Ive just found some old ends, although I do like Marty's resolution..
I would think the one in the picture would tear out of the tube. That's a very small area subjected to a lot of heat and stress from welding.
I have used wishbone ends on my 32 ford in conjunction with so cal shock spacers (to move the shock mount rearwards of the housing). As I am using the stock transverse spring then I don't think there is too much stress on the welded mount as the spring is taking the weight of the car and rear. I certainly wouldn't use these to mount a coil over as they would then be taking the full weight and stress of the rear and body but for normal shocks that are the right length and don't bottom out I can't see a stress issue (but time may prove me wrong on that point).
