Vintage Go-Karts

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by VonMoldy, Mar 17, 2008.

  1. I just noticed this thread. Reminds me of the Simplex Challenger I bought second hand back in the 60's. I had saved up some cash from my paper route and there was a fellow who was selling this a couple of blocks from my home. Had to have it and surprisingly enough my Dad went along with it. I was maybe 12 or 13. It had a Clinton E-65 engine.

  2. "Found" this today.. Not really "vintage" but looks pretty close.. (Stole the engine off grandpa's lawnmower just for mockup..& By "found" I mean built from scratch with pieces found in my scrap pile)

what you have there was called a "fun kart" or a "yard kart", not very collectable or valuable but I bet if you restored it and put a new engine on it your kids would think you were a hero!!!!

My two grandsons and I decided it was time to get my cart out of hibernation. The older one is a wizard with 2 strokes, and already has the carb apart to rebuild it. Do any of you guys know where we can source a proper carb kit for a Mac 91A ? She’s coming along… F70D006D-1E40-4357-A300-A374AB87050E.jpeg FF319A2D-9FB1-4CF3-8A10-D0D55FE5FD5D.jpeg 21B87EB7-C7F2-4D1D-AD6A-65F83C86C150.jpeg 7A9BCFE1-5902-472B-BBA4-2B21AF96DA57.jpeg 01BB3A40-BE16-4D60-ABAA-5EF7291C360F.jpeg 219319D7-B2B6-49E3-83E7-A98C910B6FB7.jpeg 42AFF2A2-D41D-4DF7-B8F4-60DED5B7151C.jpeg

I got one of these for Easter 1960, a David Bradly. It was big and slow but It was a perfect starter. It also taught me how to use a manual clutch. In a couple weeks I was drifting down the alley backwords and letting the clutch go at full throttle!! all that happened was the fan belt would loosen up then finally brake. I learned about fan belts with the green strip also.. I also learned about living in the city, it got stolen when I went in to have lunch...

I'm happy with the purchase of the orange one. I'm about 5'6" or so, and barely fit in it. I might stretch it 3 or 4 inches in front of the seat. That will move the steering wheel and pedals forward. I'll stare at it for awhile before I do anything drastic to it. Also, I don't know what brand it is.

Hi all, it has been a while since I checked in. I am hoping someone can help me id a recent find. I thought it was a home build until I came across a pic of another one (orange) with a quote that the maker was in New York or New Jersey, and he had an ad for it at some point.

This one has a Clinton E65 2 stroke on it dating from 1960.

    Anyone recognize it?

In my quest for 91A carb rebuild parts, a friend of mine; led me to an awesome fellow named Kent. The guy knew what my kart was , from just a description… unbelievable! He just sent me an ad copy. Sounds like I found the right guy. stillrunners, he told me he has all the parts to redo my carb. He also wants to install new crank seals in the bottom end, due to the engine sitting for about 30 years; since I last had it running. I’m taking it over to him next week, and will post how it works out.
