Fired up the roadster for the first time this year. Found out that the top gasket on the B fuel pump had dried out over the winter leaving quite a mess on the floor when I turned the fuel on. First time that ever happened.
43 degrees here in Southern Ontario today. Still a little cool for the RPU. Biting at the bit. Warren
Had to rebuild a 94 for one of the coops It took 2 to get good part’s enough for a decent one All good now J
I have installed a set of bomber seats using the Hells Gate side rails. I really like the look, but I find getting in and out of the restrictive door of the RPU is had on this 80 year old butt dragging over the raised sides. I want the aluminum seat, but I don't want to increase the bottom cushion. Is anyone using an aluminum bomber seat with padding that has lower side rails? Warren
I`m still here hacking on with my coupe, rear brakes and axle all completed as is the fuel and exhaust systems-I just made a pulley to fit the v8 water pump that will take a 32 fan .Tomorrow it is front brake lines and new front lever arm shocks to fit .I`m getting there !
It's been a while since I've checked in. Recently got my coupe up and running after a several year slumber.
Picked this up at a Model A only swap. Ruckstell Aluminum head for a Model A. Its really cool but I would be afraid to run and ruin it and don't need any more wall hangers. Only info I found was a photo of one on a motor at the speedway museum site. Looks like it was run and then flycut, there is some pitting in the combustion chamber but no cracks or repairs. I'm going to sell it but wanted to offer it up here first PM me if interested. I'll probably put it in the classifieds this weekend if no one here claims it..
All right! So....faulty torque wrench resulted in a leaking head gasket. Gasket replaced. Good torque wrench used. Seems to be holding. Pretty amazing the power difference and driveability difference between my engine and a stocker! I'm pretty pumped. I'll report back once I break in the engine a bit more and give it all she's got!
No competitor's were willing to come out and play at the upcoming vintage races the middle of this month at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. So regrettably we had to "pull the plug" on the "PreWar/Historic" race group!
No wonder the B leaked oil from what was left of the front seal. Popped a rod and main cap off - no babbits - YAY!!!
I have not put a picture up of progress for a while so here is one! New pulley made for the V8 water pump and fitted too,I made it 0.002" interference as it is aluminium and added a grub screw-takes a 32 fan to keep the look.
By accident really, when I was looking for a good rad a localish dealer had this one at a great price, wasn't till later it dawned on me it was different to normal It still has the makers badge on it too.
Did a little driving today. Farthest I've taken it.... It's really interesting driving this thing now. With all the miles I've put on this thing with a stock engine. Driving it everywhere I went at full throttle. It's just different. With the new engine, things feel much more modern. It revs quicker. Makes good power. I maybe give it a 1/8th throttle and im off, a 1/4 throttle and im flying! It's just so so different. The car feels like a hot rod now. It's completely changed things.
Bought another chassis to waste time and money with. The plan is to make a fool of myself breaking expensive parts racing others doing the same thing. Hung fresh woven shoes on the front, a 5 leaf reverse eye front spring and tube shocks all the way around, Mechanicals, cast drums and Teds floaters..got them adjusted correctly and she stops pretty good for rod brakes.
i have had several pulleys like that . finally went to a billet steel pulley .. no more trouble ...... steve
I stumbled upon photos of this Gemsa-headed Donovan engine built by @320ciabone. It's hard to see, but the engine has a front distributor drive which I'm led to believe is a KONG piece. As far as gears, does anyone know what would be used to spin the distributors at cam speed? I've got castings for a Kong front cover, and distributor stand.
Retson- lots of stuff MIGHT work as John mentioned. 1st step is to figure out what the center distance is between the cam and distributor shaft. Figure that out, and the rest is pretty easy. Speedway has the V-8 gears if you want to poke around in dark. I'll post the v-8 center distance later. The 49-53 Ford V-8 distributor gears run on a 1.110" center distance
I have a COOK B side cover. It has a thick rubber type gasket. Anyone know where I might find a replacement? Thanks.
