Hello all. Please let me know if this is mapped out in a sticky post. I tried to look there first, but I didn't see anything specific. I have a 292 Y-Block mated to an AOD transmission. I have a Road Demon carb on a blue thunder intake. I'm hoping someone else has some photos of their TV cable installation. Is there a bracket that can be purchased to get the correct geometry? I have the stock throttle rod. I purchased and installed the lokar AOD TV cable. I have the TV geometry correction bracket ordered for the carburetor, but I need a bracket to hold the cable in place. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to make the power tour this year. Hoping to see some Y-Block powered stuff out there.
Mine is on my 302/Edelbrock but it should show you what is needed. A bracket to hold the Lokar cable and a ball stud on the carb linkage in that lower hole. Looks like maybe you could build the bracket to attach to those two holes in the manifold. Hope this helps a little. Please ignore the excess cable that I have yet to trim. You do not need that geometry bracket, just adjust per Lokars instructions.
From what I've been able to find. I think I'll have no choice but to switch to the lokar throttle cable. That will require a lokar gas pedal. I've got everything ordered. I take a photo once all is said and done. Doesn't look like it'll be too much more work.
Not sure how else to mount the throttle cable. I still have the stock pedal that's basically a nail through the firewall. If you have another way, I'm all ears.
Fords had a lot of “monkey motion” on their foot feeds. When changing to an AOD or another transmission needing a TV cable it is better to remove all of the original parts and go with something later like the early Mustangs or after markets. I’ve even seen 55-up Chevrolet type pedals installed also. Eventho your carb has a “Ford” throttle hole the and the linkage for the throttle will be fine the geometry needs to be perfect for the transmission or a failure is eminent. Like the 302 photo shows an “L” bracket can be made and bolted to one of the 2 holes in the Blue Thunder manifold for the stock linkage. It doesn’t show but if the persons cable is going to the same hole on the carb that you are for the throttle steel link that should work correctly using the Lokar cable. Good luck.
Yeah, at this point in my Y-block journey, I'm ready to just spend some money on stuff that's made to work together. It's been a long time and I really just want to have my car back on the road. I figure to make 100% certain that the geometry is correct, I might as well swap it all. I've been having some issues with the factory throttle linkage getting jammed up anyway. I ordered the floor mount pedal to try and retain as much of the factory look as possible.
This has come up before, this is a copy cat of the Lokar for a lot less $$, what you do is mount the s**** pedal behind the stock pedal. Put this number in Ebay search 125310944008.
Maybe I am missing something on the factory throttle since I discarded mine from the start of the build. But, after three AOD installs with Lokar cables I have never been concerned with “geometry”, just following Lokar instructions.
Here's what I ended up with. Bought the lokar pedal, cable, and bracket. Removed my old linkage off of the firewall and removed the old pedal. I have a little more firewall room now, so no complaints there. Still working on getting it all fine-tuned. The pedal install isn't too bad, it just helps to have another person underneath the vehicle so you can start the bolts and verify full travel on the linkage. Hopefully I'll be able to start it again soon. I'll need to reset my transmission pressure as well.
