Please help me understand. I posted a picture of my 55 chevy in a tri 5 thread, and it was deleted for "modern wheels off topic" Can someone please clarify to me what exactly that means? 55 chevy with cragar super trick rims. Modern?
This site caters to pre 1965 ish style builds. While the super tricks are now old and could be considered "vintage" they're not old enough for this site.
yup, there were no super tricks or center lines in 1965.... check out the rules here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/
@ciscokid a lot of us have cars we can't post pics of because they do not fit the guidelines. You have a *****in car, so you can't post a pic of the wheels? There's a work around. Have @themoose or one of the other guys photoshop some SS Cragars under that beast and then you have a pic you can post without fear of public embarr***ment or deletion.
I see you’ve been around a while so this site has some meaning to you. Don’t let the delete get personal. I’d love to start a thread about how my friend from school day’s just bought a 65 El Camino to replace the one that got away. I had 2 perfect picture of each car in the same perspective but I can’t because of the type Cragar we both ran back in the late 70’s early 80’s.
Thanks for the compliment, and the photoshop guidance Billy Bandit! The car is what it is. I thought it would be cool to share a piece of drag racing history that's still alive today with the HAMB community. These guys make the rules and I just got educated. However, I'm not into politics. I'm just a p***ionate car collector who loves the hobby. I found the car with super tricks and that's how it's staying. Physically and in pictures! Have an awesome weekend. ✌
That is funny! The old guys from back in the day didn't run wooden rims on their hot rods because they were "purists"...... They ran what was cool, available, and helped them go faster!
Well when I came along Hot Rodding was about my car is faster than your car, lets go run them . So yeah that is a life style. The Hot Rods of today are flying. It is still about my car is faster than yours.
We've heard (and used) all the re****als in arguing the rules, the above-quote included. However, I will say that adherence to the guidelines helps keep the forum focused. There have been occasions over the years when it was looser than others and things tend to get off track. All that said, I wouldn't get offended. It's not that your car isn't liked it's just that it doesn't fit the guidelines. Most of us are car guys / gear heads in the broader sense, as well. Many of us have off topic vehicles, wheels, interests, etc.
I appreciate you reading my re****al. Like I said, you guys make the rules of this great forum. But it's my opinion that the only reason the forum is so great is because of us car guys. I'd like to offer some constructive criticism by saying our hobby is in grave danger these days because of the other guys making the rules, and forums like the hamb give us momentary distraction from all the bs. However, it's very discouraging to want to participate in this forum when you take the time to post cool pics just to have them deleted. That would definitely change most of any car guys opinions about the forum. Plus you can only look at the same pictures so many times. That being said, the other hambers helped me in finding the humor on all this! Thanks for that!
It's happened to all of us at one point or another. If you spend some time here, you'll see how it makes sense. Now, I'm a nobody. I don't make any rules around here. But, I've been around long enough to get it... to see why the rules are in place. Sometimes it seems nitpicky and it doesn't feel good to have your own vehicle deleted but it's not a judgement, it's simply got something that doesn't adhere to the era that this site is about. Edit: Dang! You're not a new guy - you been here since 2011... you already know! Hahaha! I'm talking like I'm welcoming in a new member.
I can ***ure you I have had many photo's deleted, be it a off topic car or truck or a car sporting independent suspension which it wasn't born with, Yeah I am also guilty of having posted cars and trucks with offensive wheels that are not correct for the period/ You have been a member long enough to know the rules, You have a cool car and it fits the Hamb criteria, but the Hamb has a cut off period and the is pre '65. I read another reply that mentioned many of us own cars and trucks that just don't fit in here, as I have heard it said many times, it's not personal. HRP
Why not go the extra mile and make it right to its era...I sure as hell would...Just because it came the post era way in the wheel department doesn't mean it should stay that way...especially since the owner is now well aware of it... Its not like the wheels of the mid 60s weren't fitting and timeless...it deserves that to complete the journey back including period rubber. Its sometimes difficult to understand one who reveres a vintage 60s car but cant revere an element...and its usually just that, rubber and wheels...I hate seeing the Site bashed by those that should sit back and reflect...we don't make the site...it was provided to us with guidelines that celebrate the greatness of a time not so long ago with endless options in near every modification...Vintage Hamb era wheels and rubber are re popped and there are always used options up for grabs... To many the choice is a no brainer, others have to make decisions...Nobody made this site other than Ryan...I continue to thank him and the Board as most others do as well for the platform to share stuff that meets the approval. Cisco, I hope someday you bring it back to experience the full period reflection. In the meantime camera angles are the only option.
I always thought of the off topic wheels thing as big ol modern rims with lo pro tires. Honestly I wouldn't have even known those wheels were ot. Its not like he posted a donk. Honestly if I'm a mod, I'd have given that one a p***....
I never saw them and the ones just above are Moosed... I agree with you many early and mid 60s mags and wheels looked ahead of their time and are difficult to date and that again is the point, why not go with a period wheel in repop or good used...
