I would like to cut a stone guard for a 31 ford so that it fits behind the stock 31 shell.
Is this possible or will the wire weave just fall apart?
Also does anyone know of a source for wire mesh that would have the same appearance as a stone guard.?
    Thanks

You can buy all kinds of stainless wire mesh in about any size squares on ebay.

Been looking at it myself, thinking about building a grille for my 31'.

  3. I did it on the cut down 32 commercial shell I used on my old touring. Have another on the wall for just the same reason. You will be fine

I used black powder coated stainless steel security mesh for mine. It is the stuff they use to make security doors and security screens.

If you buy it new it is quite expensive but if you have recyclers near you I picked up a second hand security door for $20 and then cut the mesh out of it.

It is screen is tough as and my coupe as done nearly 80,000 miles with this on it. It still looks good, has not affected cooling and has definitely saved my radiator from stone damage more than once.

I cut the mesh out of my stone guard and epoxied it to the inside of the grille on my 29 RPU. The mesh stayed together. Not sure if I am going to keep it like that forever but it certainly is saving the radiator from damage.

This was made from stainless shaker screen and mounts outside the grill shell.
