  1. Myself and Curt R on here did a 2 hour drive to check out a preview for the Jim Werth collection auction. Ran into bobbleed out here also. Looked at parts and cars, but prices today (final day online bidding) were too crazy for me or Curt, not sure if Bob tried for anything or not. If nothing else it was a nice day for a ride and 4 hours of stories along the way. The chopped flamed Merc was Curt's daily in 1961. It looked a lot different back then and very show worthy. Looks like a great place to have had and a collection to have owned.
    Thanks for the pics.

  5. Thought of you as these were part of the auction, but were Offenhauser. upload_2023-5-4_18-57-30.png

  7. I emailed Gavin Brothers Auctions after the auction and he assured me the results with prices will be posted in the near future on their website under past auctions. Make sure your sitting down before viewing ! I'm guessing by this weekend it should be listed. HiBid was screwed up for a couple days before the auction. They are who Gavin Brothers go through for the cash end of it.

I bought a decent amount of stuff at this auction and am going to pick it up tomorrow, will post a "haul" of what I got when I get back. Some neat stuff, but I got blown out of the water on some of the things I wanted for sure. Car prices were all over the place. '58 Impala convertible with no front clip went for $46,000 before the premium! But that '34 Tudor sold for $8K, that was a damn bargain! It was really neat too, old hot rod.

Crushed chopped Merc was really cool, the chop looked like it had been well done. Going to be a challenge to fix but I think it's a project well worth taking on, even if someone ends up having to reskin the roof.

$5800 plus 10% I think it went for. A challenge for sure, but well worth that price I think.

I’d think so as well for one who has more skills that I do.
    Thanks.

  14. I really want that Bud Light surfboard.

  15. Think it went for $6400. Yes the 34 going for 8K was a pretty fair price for it. Everything I bid on went for was 2-3 my max amount I put on the items. Thankfully they were want, not need items. Was not going to pay $750-800 for a 65-66 tilt column, column shift with steering wheel.I'm probably living in the past with my numbers though.

"The chopped flamed Merc was Curt's daily in 1961".

He didn't want his Merc from 1961!!??

The Merc and the 34 sedan were bargains.
Auction prices are crazy. I'm usually "out" of contention early on, but sometimes am able to match a bargain price with my want list. I think a lot of people see some stuff going through the roof early on, get disgusted and walk away for good and may miss out on an item that never builds steam toward the hammer.

  18. Actually really he did to a point, but financially and time frame to get it fixed were determining factors. His heart wanted it but his head prevailed. At over 80 years young, it was the correct move I believe, on top of that his PC crashed and locked up right in the middle of the auction. He should be getting back his PC later today, I let him know about this thread and said it would be nice to post photos of the car from 1961 which I believe he's going to do.

First, here's some random pics I took when I went to load stuff up. My friend Luke who goes by "the Fish" on here came along with me to help load stuff up which was nice. Some cars were gone already but we were still able to look around for a bit.

Then here's what I bought. I really wanted the '34 chassis with the flathead in it, I was second high bidder, but I'm just not in a good position to go any higher than I did. I think it was still a good deal. But I was able to get this '34 rearend for $11. I only really needed the torque tube and driveshaft off of it, but this one has better wishbones than mine, and I didn't even realize until I got it home that it already has juice brakes on it. Pretty thrilled with this.

Some more '34 stuff for my '34 project, got an old chrome set of bumper brackets (about $200 all together) a real nice set of '34 headlights complete for $68, a double-detent shifter with an old chromed handle for $78, a grille/radiator valance pan for $17, a very clean closed car header panel for $230 (it had been covered with carpeting and I was hoping no one else noticed what it was and I'd get it cheap, didn't happen, but still happy to get it), a couple nice Impala horn rings which I have steering wheels for, $32, and a set of F-1 shock mounts that came on a big pallet of other random BS for $36.

Next pile is some juice brake parts and some flathead starter and generator stuff that came with it (I think that pallet was $38), one Olds Rocket valve cover to hang on my wall (came on one of the random pallet lots), F-1 shock mounts from another pallet, and a gas tank that they said was for 34 Ford, not sure if it's going to work or not but I've got nothing and it was $21, if it doesn't work, no big loss.

Got this very nice 49-50 Mercury bumper for my Merc project, I really only needed the bumper brackets but this bumper is probably nicer than the one I already have so I was happy to take the upgrade, $82, and a little box of other random Merc parts that came with one of my pallets.

    20230505_193802_HDR.jpg

Also got a nice somewhat-early Sun 10K tach on one of the random pallets, and a box of chrome fender welting for $4 in a nifty Warshawsky box. I didn't necessarily want chrome fender welt but even if I paint over it, can't complain too much for 4 bucks.

Got a bundle of Merc moldings for $3, and I bought this beautiful '49 Merc dash for Rob Paul for his Merc project. I'm jealous, I've been piecing a '49 dash together for years and I've got the best of 3 dashes put together and it's not even close to as nice as this one is. It's going onto a worthy project though. Also found a Merc tail light in a random pallet lot.

Last but not least I got this set of old chrome reverse wheels for $145, 15x6 and 5 on 4.75, going to run them on my '57 Chevy I think. It's a pair and a pair, but they're all the same size and bolt pattern so they'll work fine, and they're in beautiful shape. What looks like a haze of corrosion on them is actually wax that was smeared on them years ago to keep them clean, they're extremely nice. And dig the old "Falcon New Yorker" double stripe tires on the one pair! They're too old to trust on a driver I think, but they'll make cool rollers for something.

That's my show-and-tell. I also got a pretty good sized pile of resale junk for eBay but it's mostly off-topic stuff so I won't post pics of it, the stuff I showed here is all for my own use. Some other stuff went wildly high priced, but I'm really happy with what I got, and with what I had to pay for it.
