I also trimmed it for height and shortened it 3-1/2”. It will get a final file fit once the hood is mounted.

I picked up the last load of painted pieces for the '40 pickup, from Duane at Acme Welding Body Shop. It included the tailgate, running boards, and the rear rolled pan. He does beautiful work, had to stick it on the wall with the rest, until I get the '29 finished. IMG_0049.JPG IMG_0050.JPG IMG_0052.JPG IMG_0053.JPG IMG_0055.JPG

Excellent. Nearly identical to the paint on Clarence.

Looking good, curious where you got the cowl lacing? The places I’ve looked have been out of stock for a long time

Thank you! I think Mac’s discontinued carrying it. I’ve still got stuff in back order from them for an entire year. Yikes. Time to call Bert’s!

I think I have an extra one, unopened in the bag, 40/41 PU, rubber with the screws. I have no idea why I bought two of them but it happens periodically.

My friend Sam @bskustoms is going to upholster the seats for the RP. I haven't asked him yet, but I will also need a tonneau cover for the bed. I didn't want to drill the box and tailgate for snaps, so I have been thinking of a way to do it. I decided to fab up and aluminum frame that would bolt to the holes already in the bed. I have a young guy that is like family, that gets some time off, about one Friday a month, and comes up from time to time to help me. He is sharp, has a good eye, fun to work with. We always get good things accomplished when he comes. We put our heads together, and came up with this, made out of .063, 5052 alloy. It does a couple things, including hiding the ripples in the base rails. There will be some cross bows that span the width of the box. 17. Why would you not want to drill it for snaps Marty? It's just a Model A bed after all. This one still has the 60 year old snaps that Greg Schifano used when he upolstered the car.

Dean, I thought drilling holes for snaps would add extra work for the next guy restoring it, with an electric motor. Actually my thinking was, it was a good way fill the voids on the front and back, to make it flat, and have a set of rails down each side to attach the cross bows to. Plus, remove 4 bolts and the whole thing comes off. We will see what Sam thinks.

I did similar one piece aluminum on my 46. Its held down with two Dzus wing buttons. Plus, I added the high heels handle.

I got a little energy and desire back, so today I lifted the box off and set it on stands, to complete the front section of the aluminum tonneau cover frame. Also, I separated the rear suspension, and raised up the rear of the chassis, to trim the lower frame rails and get them capped. I should get the rear section fully welded tomorrow, and add a leaf the the rear spring to get more tire to fender clearance. IMG_0112.JPG IMG_0113.JPG IMG_0114.JPG IMG_0115.JPG IMG_0116.JPG

I've wondered if you could use some of those super powerful button magnets to hold a tonneau cover on - sew them into pockets along the perimeter. They're amazingly strong and are pretty inexpensive. Harbor Freight sells them.

Stuart, I think the snaps add to the 60's flavor, thanks for your input.

Working on getting the hood mounted, and I wanted to make brackets that bolt on to existing holes. Reason being, I want to be able to down the road, install the stock hood and sides, with a new set of tri-y headers that fit inside the frame. This is what I did for the rear, using 1/2" tube. My burst of energy has held up all week. I got quite a bit done and it's loaded to go to the Portland Transmission Warehouse show in the morning. Leaving at 5 AM, hope to see some of you locals there ! 29-1.jpg 29-2.jpg 29-3.jpg IMG_0144.JPG IMG_0143.JPG
