  1. No on the sticker OR Moon Eyes!! Don't junk up the clean lines and subtle look. Less is better in this case!

Lots of little projects lately. I painted the backside of the bumpers with 2K catalyzed satin black.
    upload_2023-5-8_15-56-18.jpeg
And bolted them up. Do they make longer bolts for the bumper guards? And if so, do they sell them with oval heads? For now I just left the guards off, but I would like to run them, especially on the rear.
    upload_2023-5-8_15-58-4.jpeg
Added my fog lights. The lights are just cheapy repops but I bought a couple of ford caps for the tops and drilled/screwed them on. They come off easily to change bulbs.
    upload_2023-5-8_15-59-25.jpeg
Bumper irons are all powder coated in semi-gloss black. They were too rough to chrome plate, but the powder coat makes them look sweet.
Back bumper on and secure. The rear, inside irons had to be modified slightly to fit the bumpers. They had to be lengthened about 2" to hit the bolt hole in the bumper.
    upload_2023-5-8_16-2-4.jpeg
If you recall, I am using the front 41 Super Deluxe plate holder on the back. I like the art deco look of it, and I had cut a slit and hammered a louver into it prior to chroming for a plate light to shine through.
    upload_2023-5-8_16-3-29.jpeg
I made a light out of LEDs and a bracket that attaches using the bolts that secure the holder to the bumper.
I also added my reverse light that I bought off our cl***ifieds. upload_2023-5-8_16-5-16.jpeg
Thats about it for now. Cool bumpers, thanks again @Chris
California black tags would sure look good on this truck.

As you probably know, those 41 Super Deluxe bumpers looked so good to me that I plagiarized your idea, and after a long search finally came up with two, thanks to @Chris and @396skip . Thanks BB!
Rare = expensive, and they still have to go to the chrome shop.

  8. I have another little Fixer-Upper I'm going to bring to his attention. It would be a grate Shop Mate for the 40 and challenge him to build just a "plain" Truck out of it. After getting to know BB just a little I can say he just plain thinks different than I do (in a good way). I've been told he takes a detail rag to the Golf course and polishes after each time he swings each club. Then again when he gets back home. I think it's paid off on this little project. I want to be there the first time he lights up those rear tires and see his reaction to all the Rubber Chowder on those rear fenders.

When I saw them on Chris' 34 I knew I had to have them. I just found the correct square head bolts in both short (no bumper guard) and long at Third Gen. Not cheap.

    I appreciate that Tom.

I like details, it keeps people's eyes busy so they don't point out my errors.

I do clean the grooves and wipe down the rifle shafts after each swing, but I don't bring car parts or a cell phone to the course. As for rubber chowder? I can't wait.

Can't have distractions like cell phones on the golf course.

Since you have the YOM tags already ***igned,, could you (get away with a) cough, cough, repaint?
Who actually knows that the gennie tag color is green?
Not that I would EVER suggest an end run on the DMV.

My wife doesn’t like the ford script painted on the tail gate. She asked me to put the gate on the truck so she could see it together.
    IMG_3605.jpeg
one thing fort sure, the four small nut heads holding the gate arms have to go. The local hardware store has black chrome hardware. I think that will look better. I have serious consideration to welding studs in the gate and drilling out the threads from the interior mount and using acorns. I just want sure about the thinness of the steel on that gate and the possible weight of some fool sits on it. I may have blown a shift there.

I also painted my plaster frame around the Hollywood letters
    IMG_3603.jpeg
I chose the frame because I grew up in Hollywood, in Portland. My dad loved it there. He would have loved this truck.

So, what do you think of the letters being Wimbledon white? Remember, the truck will get Wimbledon white panel stripes. I like it or I wouldn’t have done it. I think it adds to a vintage look s fires the lighting in back. She is not saying yea or nay…yet. Maybe it’s growing on her?

I have no issue with the script. I wouldn't be doing panel stripes though because I'm not a fan of that...but it's not my truck.
If she's iffy about the script, does she even know about the panel stripes?

  16. IMHO panel stripes will be too much of a distraction to a really nice build. You might ask someone on the photoshop thread to lay some on to how you (and your wife, who will be the primary driver) like it.

I had her look at the panel stripe thread on her, she cringed at quite a few of them. I wasn’t planning on going crazy with them. I figure around the aches, around the body reveal, around the bed side stamping and tailgate.

hmm, sounds like a lot when I typed it.

My dad paid me to paint his garage one summer, I needed the money so I got some practice at painting shakes with a brush. When it came to the garage door I panel stripped the recessed panels either his trim color. I was very proud of that work.

when dad got home that night I learned I wasn’t getting paid until I corrected the garage door.

    moral?

I say do the panel stripes just make sure you get a striper who “gets it” not over board and it’ll look great

  20. Paint the letters on the License Plate the same white as the Ford letters, then decide. Of course you could paint the Ford letters off white to match the plate and tone the color clash down a bit.

  21. I also have some opinion on the gate stud thing but too much to type.

  22. Now that I look a little harder, I have a few other opinions as well but maybe better kept to myself. Just some afterthought stuff. That "Truck" is just to Bad *** to have rough edges.

  23. The DMV checks your YOM plates for correctness before allowing you to use them. You don't have to be exact on color, but at least semi-close. All it takes is one ****-head LEO and you won't have them....

Thanks George! It needs a bit of touching up as I burned through it a few times.

I hope to have Mitch Kim do the stripes. He is renown and revered throughout the hobby. If he direct get it, it can’t be got.

I thought about caroming the logo then painting the tail gate with the letters marked off. I decided that was weird. Then it was silver leaf…too 70’s. I ended up with a detail but not horribly “in your face”.

I have a lot more truck to build. Plenty of time to change my mind.

I like the license plate as is. A clean original plate of the correct year for the truck is perfect. Personally, I'd rock that plate proudly. It just can't be any better.
    On the California black plates....
Since the state has brought those black plates back and allowed them on ALL vehicles, it has severely degraded their "cool" factor. I wouldn't use 'em unless they were original to the vehicle.
My own truck would have come with black plates. But they were replaced with the blue & gold plates sometime in its life. They're beat up, chipped, faded and the back one has a rust hole in one of the letters. By rights, I could do black plates. But I won't because I'd look like a poser just like everyone else that gets the "official" repops. There's just nuthin' cool about 'em anymore.
Sorry if any of you fellers that have the poser black plates are offended. I just tell it the way I feel about it.

We have had a conversation on it before. And note that the gate is black those little SS heads are a real eye sore. Love to find slotted heads, black chrome, slightly larger head. I hate these Allen heads.

You? An opinion? Now I am interested. Lol

And I want my wife to drive it, imagine it’s if she gets her only ticket in her life because I painted the plate. Divorce is expensive and I don’t want to split up “The kids” in the garage.

I get it. In Oregon they brought back the blue “pacific wonderland” plate from 1963?? Now every Tesla and Challenger has them. No longer cool. If I drove a PT Cruiser with flames and WWW’s…I’d rock em

There is actually one running around the couve. It has paneling too, plus every chrome stick on trim they sell. I have actually puked a little in the back of my throat seeing it.

My didn’t either, never considered the reason…till now

I have never been there, they tell me it’s nice. Cool plate, be fun making s plate frame for it.
