well I bought a gas tank to put on my Studie...
thats about all I know about it...
    it's a sweeeet looking tank.
It's clean as a whistle inside and out. Powder coated outside, and I cleaned it out inside and it is spotless.

    It holds 25 gallons.

    NOW here's the problem.
I have NO CLUE what it came out of,.. I need a sending unit for it and a pick-up unit for it. (well a fill nozzel also,.. but I figure I got a wide selection for that. unless I miss my gues,.. I figure the sending unit has to MATCH the tank so it'll read correctly... (and I suppose the pickup has to match also..??)

SO look at these pics and let me know if anyone has any idea of what this came out of.??

Given its capacity and dimensions, I would say definitely from a full-size pickup. Compare it to a '73-87 Chevy.

I'm thinking the sending unit has to match the gauge... I put cl***ic instruments mooneyes gauges in mt 49 chevy. they came with a cut to fit tank sending unit that prolly could have went in a tank 15 inches deep.. maybe more.

I figure if a brand new aftermarket gauge bolts right in my 49 tank they must be universal as far as the hole goes. what fuel gauge are you running??

  4. you can get away with a universal sender, available at any parts house. Just make sure the ohms match the guage you get.

I haven't bought any gauges yet...
just got the tank yesterday,.. dropped by a salvage yard and picked me up a 350 chevy engine.
Saw this gas tank laying there and he only wanted $15 for it. I couldn't p*** it up... especially as good a shape as it was in.

How much does a sending unit run??
I'll need a pick unit also I guess... any idea what those cost??

Yep, Vdo as well as other manufactures make a universal sender, with the VDO they tell you the formular to set the sender up for (a few simple measurements, a reference to the suppied chart and you got it) I put a VDO sender in my 49 tank and it worked beutifully

Take it to your local radiator shop. They can tell you and even set you up with a sender.
