Hi everyone, we are making progress on the Oakland. We replaced the old and tired running boards with new wood and rubber. The outside aluminum strips were cleaned and polished just enough to keep it that old look. Underneath the aluminum, the metal strips needed to be replaced so we installed new pieces and painted them with rust armor. The wood was painted with exterior flat black with a splash of Thompson water seal mixed in together. If you use too much of the water seal, the paint takes days or a week for it to dry. Removed the seat and the tool storage compartment and found some surface rust. Sand the area really well and cleaned it up and applied metal prep. After that applied rust armor. Stay turned for more fun! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn13zMbNLOE/?hl=en
What a nice car, rare and in a fantastic condition! Did you write somewhere that it's a customers car or is it yours? good work by the way.
That is really pretty car. Didn't Oakland evolve into Pontiac or Oldsmobile or some other marq in GM?
Check out Joe Rincon's before and after upholstery work he's been doing on the Oakland. This is another service provided here at the shop.
What is the material? It looks like mohair didn’t think it is available now what ever it is it looks very nice
One look at that open door tells why Oaklands arent common.Another termite trap.Car must have been stored dry to have lasted so long.
Is it a flathead V/8? In 31 Oakland could be had with the V/8. In 32 Pontiac bought the Oakland car company and you could buy a new 32 Poncho with the V/8. 33 Pontiacs had the straight 8. Don't know if 30 Oakland had the V/8.
1930 and 1931 Oaklands had the flathead V8 available. This car appears to have it judging by pictures from a previous post. It also has the correct radiator cap for the V8 as they were different from the 6-cylinder cap. Pontiac was introduced in 1926 as a lower priced “companion” car to Oakland. Sales of Oaklands dropped and 1931 was their last year. Pontiac survived and was the only GM companion car to outlast its parent company.
Yes the material is mohair. We took off the door trim and found out the original color was a dark moss green so we found some material online and its a really close match
