Sunset Beach, part of Huntington Beach proper…

    Hello,

The photo shows a very long parking area geared for the homeowners and renters along this stretch of beach front area along PCH. It is located South of Seal Beach and North of the current Bolsa Chica State Beach. For years, it was an Orange County property not associated with any city. Unincorporated is the designation for the areas within other city limits, but controlled by the County Government.

During the time period of the old photo, it was still designated county property, although, the top of the photo shows the massive wooden water tank structure. For years when the actual railroad ran from Long Beach to Newport Beach, the tank was full of water. But since the railroad was taken out, the tower was just a tower that gave us identification for a local surf spot called Anderson Street.

The sand can be seen from PCH, but the surf cannot. So, the locals usually had the run of good surf by themselves without any outsiders or traveling surfers. The draw of southerly, Huntington Beaches and the famous pier waves was the main draw.

In the far reaches of the photo is the famous water tank tower, it is now a Airbnb rental space. 360 degree views from oceans North/South to the local mountains. A full 360 degree view of the whole So Cal region from the barrier mountain range to the ocean’s coast lines running from Palos Verdes Peninsula in the North, down to the San Diego area.

While the coastal community is still there, the improvements have been upgraded and provided the general public access/parking for the public beaches in front of the ocean front homes. (Coastal commission approved.) Although, it is still hard to find empty parking spaces and the homes still block the waves from being seen by the traveling surfers. So, the nice waves still go unridden by most in So Cal.

In the 50s-60s the tracks were still there but the railroad had stopped many years earlier on this on the beach sand set of tracks down South to Newport Beach . The tracks are gone, replaced by a paved trail all the way to the reaches of Huntington Beach proper.
