I have a 351M in my 56 Monterey Wagon. Stock front motor works fine. Driver side stock exhaust manifold is a tight fit. The p.o. cut a notch ( and welded ) in the rear to clearance the steering box. P1050389 2.JPG P1050392.JPG

The 351M is a DOG ! ( rated at 155 hp ) I totally re-did the motor. Edelbrock RPM Aluminum heads, roller rockers, r.oller cam, Airgap Performer intake manifold. Headers will be installed this winter. Running a Lentech AOD in place of the C6. Lokar throttle and shift linkages

These engines aren’t that hard to wake up, a 4 barrel intake and carburetor and a set of headers are easy to bolt on. A camshaft change will also do wonders but is a little more involved.

I’ll bet if you advanced the cam 6* you would not believe it’s the same engine. This era retarded the cams for emissions.

Their not bad engines. Just a bit heavy and Unfortunately they were hampered by having to comply with the new emissions requirements of the seventies. Their basically a tall deck Cleveland with low compression and retarded timing but they powered millions of Ford trucks and the larger Ford/Mercury/Lincoln cars of the era.

The distributors were also retarded to match, back then a swap to a Mallory or Accel would really wake these smog motors up along with an advanced timing set.
