Sigh.....350 chevy in my 36 ford. Had a carter and now facet pump and keep getting fuel starvation issues. Stock tank and fuel line from tank, was going over the crossmember to the pump and then to the motor. Had issues at half tank with the pump still running but no fuel. Changed pumps to the Facet from the Carter and same issues. Then moved the fuel pump lower than the tank ran all new lines away from all and any heat source.... So now the line comes off the tank to a 90 degree fitting to the pump and up and over the crossmember to the motor. Took for a ride to add gas to the tank and still having problems. Same issue, I thought it was a venting issue so I placed a funnel in the gas cap keeping it open and still problems... I have a holley with clear sight bowls and I can see that there is no fuel getting there while the pump is running. And I added a fuel pump relay wire kit as well.... Pay no attention to the wiring is been fixed
Hard line from tank about 2 inches then hose to pump them about 12 inch of hose to hard line to motor
Yes original tank and I guess i need to see what's in the tank...it looks like there is a female fitting in the tank but I'll have to see what's inside
I have a similar one of these https://www.harborfreight.com/27-in-color-compact-digital-inspection-camera-64623.html Mike
I've run into issues with that on bobcats where the line inside the tank would deteriorate and not draw fuel from the mid to lower tank. Run fine when fully fueled or drawing from a external tank. Same difference and like previously stated, I'd see what the sending unit itself is looking like.
Or you could put the hose into a gas can and go for a drive. If the problem persists , then it is not the tank.
When I get home from work I can pull the sending unit from the top of tank to see if I can see inside.
Looks like I was close. That doesn't look like a sock but would have the same affect as a clogged sock.
It looked like a small piece at the end of the tube. Grabbed it and thought it was a tape worm... lol Think it is tape.... car sat for 20 years who knows
Car lovers are just a glutton for punishment. Lay underneath them contorting our old selves in ways we know we'll be paying for the body aches the next day. Endure the embarr***ment we get from the flatbed rides we get back to home. We get turned upside down till all the money falls from our pockets. All this just because I can remember my dad tinkering away on some mechanical issue in the same Garage I'm now working in now. What the Heck is that, a Tank Snake Clogging? I'll bet that's it! I hope it is!
Hey Dooley, it’s Ron with the 1935/1936 Ford Cabriolet I hate to but in on your post but I am glad you found something that was blocking your fuel . I have a question for you I am in need of the “A” pillar wood for the windshield where the inside molding attaches to. Now I am sure there are pieces of wood in there because I was stupid and let some slip through my hands. I don’t even have a piece to copy. We are originally from The Buffalo area( North Tonawanda to be exact) we have been in Sunny Florida for 35 years. Any help that you can give me would be appreciated greatly. Thanks ahead of time and have a great Summer. We are on or way to our Summer cottage on the St. Lawrence river in Cape Vincent NY
I've run into this problem before. Pickup tube either has a hole in it part way up or is broken off. If the tank has been sitting a long time (many years) with old gas in it, it can rot the tube, usually at the top surface of said gas, leaving a hole in it. The engine will run out of gas when it reaches that level. Sometimes it will rot completely off. You need an endoscope, such as the one pictured. That's what I use when I run across this. The tube would usually have either a screen on the end or a sintered bronze filter.
