Features Econoline Madness Who's got one?

Hey yall. I'm going to pick this gem up in 2 days. A little backstory.... My grandfather left this '66 to me in his will when I was 12 yrs old. (34 now)...he got it from an auction from Angelo State University. My dad told me it just needed a fuel pump. So, I bought one when I was 17. Ended up trading the pickup to my uncle when I was 18 for a dirt track car. Fast forward about 15 yrs, my uncle passed away... so, my aunt told me to come get the truck...so I'm just now getting a chance to go get it. This should be a ton of fun for my son and I and since it was my grandpa's, it definitely has some sentimental value. It needs A LOT of work, but I'm stoked about it. Always loved these pickups and finally have a chance to do something with it. Oh...and by the way, I found that new fuel pump I bought when I was 17 in the bottom of my toolbox... so, I already have its first new part!

Soooo...after getting the truck home, found out it's actually a '61. I do have the original title, and the auction slip from my grandpa's original purchase...which is pretty cool. It's missing the carburetor, so I have to come up with one. Not sure if i will buy a built one or try to find one to rebuild. Needs body work for sure, but I'm gonna wait on that. My son and I did sand it down today to get the oxidation off of it. Super stoked about this project!!!

My friends Grandpa had one back in the 70's, he blew up the engine and put it behind the barn for a hog shed.

 

I bought a 200 ci for my econoline as a back up motor but my buddy Hamilton,also a hamber,wanted to upgrade his 170 so we did some trading...
We got his 63 running last Sunday we will do the swap in the future.

 

Looks liker it has no rust too!! Up here in the north east that would be hard to find in that condition.

I have a 1960 model, I put a 200 cubic inch six out of a Mustang, then added a three speed overdrive out a ‘57 Ford then changed out the little rear end to a nine inch 4:11 Traction loc. Put some 69 Mustang 14 inch wheels with Goodyear radials. Also when I changed out the rear end I also got the springs from the later van and it set the rear in up just right for a good nose down stance. I drove that van all over the place with motor cross bikes in it at freeway speeds, back in the day! Awesome little truck.

Nope, bolt in! Used the same shifter linkages, three on the tree, had to shorten the drive shaft, but if I remember correctly, I used one out of another, later Econoline.

We have one in the hoard that we are parting out. A couple of years ago a help needed post was put out on the HAMB. A van was stranded in Springfield Mo. Half way on a trip from Calif to New Jersey. They needed a steering sector. Shortly after that post was made I seen it and replyed. They rented a car at the Airport and drove 125 miles here to get that steering sector. Got it installed and resumed their trip.

I know there's some econoline pickup folks on here, a freind picked up a 62 recently and she needs a good deal of metal along with a pair of seats. Looking for a parts truck or parts in general so thought I'd ask on here along with putting up a WTB ad. Willing to travel up to 500 miles for a good donor!

Gonna be a mild custom and probably keep the og green paint or as much of it as she can. Just love these trucks.

Anyone have an idea for what a field find 5 window pickup would go for? Found one that looked fairly straight but didn’t check it out to see if it had a lot of rust in it. Asked the rancher if it was for sale and he said yes what’s it worth. Don’t want to pay a fortune for it but don’t want to offend the guy either.

Drove it for the first time

 

Rust is THE big thing to set value. Many projects will require more effort than just finding another body at 2-3 times the price. Can you fabricate panels, and what is your rate?
Second is missing/rotten parts.
Third is drivetrain, some swaps are much harder than others, so having what you want is helpful/worth more.
Paperwork for field finds is hit or miss. Depends on where you are but it could cut the value by half or more.

That said, figure if it passes no big holes, almost or all there and drivetrain you want and has a clear title, low end would be 2500.
Look at all 4 bottom corners, inside and outside bed sides, and the nose. These are the most common areas for damage and check door openings, floor and roof for rust.

From a few years ago. I won the auction for $400. Sold it to a friend to get my money back. He still has it.

 

So i am new to the econoline scene but I just bought a 62. The original owner stuffed either a 300 or 240 under it and cut up the center support ( where the transmission mounts) in order to move it all back and his mount is hideous…. Anyone have any advice or pictures on a proper engine and transmission mount for this swap? Thanks

Who here has done a spring under conversion on an econoline? Frame notch necessary in the rear? Steering issues?

It needed a number of patch panels when he got it. He did all the work himself, including the paint.
