Can someone help identifying the sprint car I recently purchased? There is no paperwork with it other than a tiny tag attached to the steering column. (photo attached) It seems well built, with what seems to be a Weiand aluminium head, Cragar valve cover, huge water pump and a modified inlet manifold. It was sold to me as being from 1948, but when looking at the overall appearance and components I would estimate it to be built in the late 30's... I am thankfull for any hint that brings up a bit of it's history!
Great looking old sprinter! Wondering if the “Heligas” is a misspelling of Hillegas - Hiram Hillegas was a well known sprint car manufacturer back in the early days. I remember seeing several Hillegas cars at the Knoxville IA Sprint Car hall of fame Here is an article about him from their webpage. https://www.sprintcarhof.com/helper_pages/FileGet.aspx?id=129 You might try contacting them to see if they would be able to get you in touch with someone who can help identify your car.
Have you contacted ACOT? The Atlantic Coast Old Timers https://www.facebook.com/groups/1423606364571061/
If you do FB there are several groups you can join, post your pics and maybe someone there can help you some info.
