Getting 51'Merc ready for the season here in Michigan. 255 Flathead with B.W. Overdrive 6v.

At some point before the Relay had been replaced with a starter Relay/Solenoid.

Over the Winter I bought a Solenoid and Relay. After further inspection I noticed a rattle in the relay, and found the contact point floating inside the case.
So I looked at the Solenoid, I noticed the contact point on the top(plunger) is missing.

Question is, does anyone rebuild these or are the paperweights now?

I "rebuilt" the horn relay on my 57 by removing the guts and putting a mini relay inside. I connected the terminals to the original relay terminals. With the can on it looks very original.

Someone here or on Fordbarn posted something to the effect that he had solenoids for sale. Old age and brain fog prevents me from giving more info. A thorough search might help.

If you haven't already done it, the first thing you should do is get back to the seller, who basically sold you junk.

IS THERE ANYONE THAT KNOWS & REPAIRS OVERDRIVES? Here's the wiring diagram to use a bosch relay in place of the stock Ford/Mercury relay. If you want you can remove the "innards" of the original relay and put the bosch relay inside the housing.

I used a 30amp relay for off-road lights and hid it under the original cover.

I think you did, I think you referred to a 12v system?
