    I suppost more than one of us had similar ideas. That baby will be 55 this year. The Corvette is long gone but I still have her '69 Camaro in my garage. The restoration will be finished this year.

    @squirrel,
    Please tell us that this is Plan 3 or ?????

    I'd like to see a Vette come out of your shop for Dragweek.

    I'm thinking about it, but haven't really got anywhere with figuring out how to make it go fast. Actually, the going fast part is pretty easy, but making it NHRA legal and meeting my own "streetable" requirements is kind of challenging. Mainly with the area behind the seat--a cage wants to be where the gas tank and soft top are.

    I am considering taking it on Drag Week with a mild engine and going relatively slow, and just enjoying the ride, for now.

    Sounds like a good plan Jim. I agree with the back bars going right through the gas tank/soft top area. If it is going to be a street car or street strip car a cage is a bit extreme if one's intention is to stay close to "stock". My avatar 62 was an old drag car out of New Mexico and they ran a three point bar back in the day and did a crude job of cutting it out. I installed a removable chrome three point bar bolted to the frame. I have had it teched at Milan and Byron and they frown on the three point bar (both NHRA tech) but tell me to not go quicker than 12.00 which is where it runs anyways so no big deal (street car move than racecar). I only run nostalgia/vintage events so they cut me some slack. They told me if I want to go quicker I have to run back bars. There is a earlier thread on the HAMB "Early Corvette Drag Racing Tips and Tricks" that show Vetrod62's (Jim Heavener) car and Baron's 57 with back bars. There is also a shot of Stephen Norton's 56 (Tunnel Rat) that shows where his back bar ended up. I believe Jim's bars are removable so he can get to his gas tank. I may have some pictures of his bar on a thumb drive somewhere (not sure but it seems to ring a bell). I have seen another early Vette with removable back bars as well and he ran some events so maybe that is a consideration.

    Not sure if you have a hardtop but there is a discussion in another thread entitled "5 Point harness without roll bar" that touches on that topic as well. I know there was some consideration of convertible versus hardtop on the rules back in the 60s/70s.

    I think you have a good plan so far. I see you plan on keeping the stock front suspension. I happen to like them as it takes me back in time and it feels and rides like a 62 Vette which is what it is. I helped a buddy change out his front suspension to a Morrison system I believe on his 61 and when we got it dialed in we took it for a ride. After driving it we took the car back to his house and I enjoyed my car better on my way home when I felt the difference. Everyone has a different idea of how they want to do their car if the truth be told. Good luck with your build.

    Anyone have any information about this '56? It was in a movie "Drag Strip Riot" in 1958.
