hey fellow rodders! im scott and after 20 some odd years ive finally got my dream rod,1934 ford truck. but i need some help on keeping her an honest rod. i want to power her with a 283cid chevy and a four speed. my problem is stiffening the chassis and setting the suspension up. im a good welder and an above average wrench. ive always had muscle cars and have dreamed of this truck for a long time so ANY HELP OR ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED!!!!!!

Looks like a good project! I'd power it with whatever motor makes you happy....it's your car! :) I don't think you'll have any troubles keeping it an "honest" hot rod...you got a great start!

  6. Welcome, Scott. I'm surprised that nobody here has suggested "anything but a SBC"....they seem to have a preference for Buick nailheads, Oldsmobiles, Ford Y-blocks, etc. I've always preferred lightweight stuff so a 215 Buick or Olds would be worth considering. I'm using a Pontiac Iron Duke in my 1200 lb. (hopefully) modified.

Meh SBC is fine, not like nailheads and flatheads aren't just as overdone as a small block is.

Not like there is really too much truly original anyone can do anymore so just do what you feel suits your needs best and to hell with what anyone else says...unless it is a safety concern.

Scott, do what makes you happy. I think a small block dressed out right looks good.
