As the ***le States I'm looking for a pair of 55 to 56 Chevy car axle bearing retainer plates. All I can find is Billet aluminum ones that are a whole lot of money. I see they make them for the later years but it's the wrong depth. And I can't even locate any used ones. Here's a picture of what they look like 1684793135278608364903306546742.jpg 16847931577433826635823748738229.jpg 16847931691324387101457544236318.jpg

If the wrong depth ones aren't too far off " the right wag" you might be able to fab some shims ?

Remove the bearing to get the retainer off the axle.
Knock the studs out, straighten the retainer, reinstall the studs and spot weld them.
They are only in the plate with serrated teeth.
Once the axle is re***embled, install the axle in the housing, snug up the retainer enough to make sure the axle bearing is fully seated but not so tight you bend the retainer.
Then see how much clearance there is between the retainer and brake backing plate.
I have had to make thicker gaskets to prevent bending up the retainer.
I have done that a number of times.

Here's the thing, I know how to take the bearings and everything off of the axle and the plates. I ended up shortening the housing so I have custom axles but I basically have to reuse the stock plates that hold them in , but I'd like to just keep these bearings and axles together as they are pretty new set. Was just trying to see if there was other options before I had to separate all these parts.

Have you tried any of the restoration parts houses? They may have used original's for sale at a decent price. I'd try Mutton Hollow Chevy first.

Thanks all I had to get the job done so I took apart the old axles to use the bearing retainers. I'm going to try and score another set of them though
