great description and history of Venice, a very unique area. I have visited Venice many times, the beach area is very busy and ‘interesting’ but there are some beautiful homes on the canals off beach. Nice walk to Santa Monica from Venice along the beach front during the day. When visiting LA we prefer Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach or Malibu but everyone should experience Venice at least once.
My grandmother told of the time she met Annie Oakley. Around 1907 on the family homestead in Montana one rainy day there was a knock on the door, it was a man asking for help to get his car out of the mud and could Annie stay inside out of the weather. My great grandfather and his older sons went out to help and Annie came in and end gave hair ribbons to my grandmother and her older sister while she waited.
