All, My 39 ford pick up is mostly stock, has 47 motor, Coker bias look radials, 600x16 front, 750x16 rear, tube shocks from Bob Drake. New shackle bushings and rear anti sway bar from Drake on rear. I guess the springs are original. Springs seem incredibly stiff, especially the rear. Would like suggestions on softening the ride. Should take out leaves? I would like to keep the stance. Thank you all in advance. Wayne
What I did to my 36 original spring. Carefully dis***emble and round the bottom lip of each end of the spring where it sits on the one below it. Add spring liner between each leaf,re***emble and enjoy
I've removed a few leaves and in the past TCI in CA made a good poly spring liner with a lip on each edge to keep it in between the leaves. I used it several times pre Posie Springs and it really helped.
Your '39 Ford pickup has the same basic frame as a '39 car. Biggest difference is that the body mounts riveted to the outside of the frame rails are deleted on a pickup frame, and the pickup has stiffer springs. So, yes, it's not a problem to take out some leaves--basically, that would give you the equivalent of a p***enger car spring. I lowered the front on my '38 with a NORS front spring for a 60 HP car. Made for a smoother ride and about 1 1/2" lower.
Thank you all, leaning toward removing 2 or 3 leaves and rounding edges and adding the sleeves . Just don’t want to lower it any. Appreciate the input and will take more.
