Picked up this grill recently. Initially looks 37 Ford Truck but you'll notice the 2 crank holes. It's actually 38 Thames truck. Interestingly the bullnose holds a 32 FORD logo perfectly. I'm thinking it's a nice beginning for a Bonneville style nose but haven't seen many done. Opinions welcome as always. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm curious about the 2 crank holes. Did the original vehicle have a flathead where the crank was put on the waterpumps to crank start instead of the crankshaft? Curious and cool and I agree a great start to a track nose
No idea on how the original vehicle would have cranked. May find someone on here that knows. Here's the one pic I did find online of the same nose in use on a 34-5w in Finland. Jussi Luntamo @pistons_luntamo is the owner. sweet looking ride for sure. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I remembered Jake's coupe which got me interested in the grill initially, I just knew it was somehow not the same. Really similar shape and an awesome size. I love how the top goes almost flat as it meets the hood. You can really see it in Jussi's 5w. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I agree. Not always easy to get the E&Js to flow into the look but I think Jussi nailed it with his car. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I think what makes them work in that application are the grill openings being horizontal, instead of vertical. The horizontal lines match the odd shape of the lights.
1954 Fordson (English) the neighbour had one of these and my brother changed out the clutch, the engine was offset to the left hand side (passenger side, RHD here in New Zealand) to give the driver more pedal room. The gearbox and diff looked like Ford V8 units. The diff had a very short bell on the left side to shorten the axle overall width to be the same as the English vehicles. That would count for the left hand crank hole, the right hand side crank hole would be for the left hand drive versions sold in the USA or continent..
Yeah, the Thames nose is really growing on me. I'm liking the differences and how they could work well for a cool track nose. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Not a fan of the "track" nose. Hope it doesn't go that way. I sure like Jussi Luntamo"s coupe though.
