Riddle me this, will a mark 4 big block oil pan work on a gen 5 block? Everything I'm seeing is up to 1990. Mine is a 92 truck engine. I guess I'll need to change the pan to go on my car?

I’m in the “no” camp. I’m betting 1pc vs 2pc pans are different.
Check summit, I’d bet they have pans for both types.

LOL, so true. I married my wife in 1990, not because she could cook.
Now I'm retired, I handle the shopping & cooking

So was a 90 model 2 piece or 1 piece? I figured it was 1 piece! Lol

Pretty sure all Gen 4 BBCs are two pc RMS.
If it’s like a SBC, the rear of the crank where the FW/FP bolts on will be a round inch+ thick flange for the 1 pc seal.

I have one of the pans that would come on a 502 crate engine with one piece rear main seal.

Confirmed, MK IV and Gen 5 pans do not interchange. Went through this myself. Gen 5 has a slightly better oiling system.

  19. I bought a pair of Edelbrock's here in the classifieds, sorta famous pin striper from California, the carbs were complete garbage inside, totally unusable, the outside looked good though.
Every time I see him on TV I say there's the guy that fucked me on a pair of carbs

Also have to be aware of different heads and head gaskets on Gen 5. Do your research.

First off, if I have to cook it, you don't want to eat it, and would probably be well advised not to try. I can push the buttons on the microwave though... When I cook, we go someplace to eat and I buy.

I've owned two Chevies in my life, both for about 20 minutes, and both were sold. I never even drove them. I did make a few bucks off of them. Over the years I've fixed a lot of broken Chevy cars and trucks for others. I drove a different make of GM car, and owned and drove the 2nd different make GM car. I killed both of them, they don't hold up very well for me.

That carb looks about like the last 3 or 4 I've taken apart. This stuff they call gas kills old carbs pretty quickly. Up here in corn country, we don't have another choice. Back when I was running carbs, I had to pull them apart and clean them up and put a kit in them every year if I wanted it run correctly. One of several reasons there are no carbs at my house.

My 427 had a moroso 7 quart pan. When I went to a 327, I used a 65 Impala oil pan. I know they are completely different engines, but take a look at the 65 small block pan, as it has a different shape that hit the crossmember. Here is a picture of the big block version. It hit on the front of the middle step. s-l1600.jpg I used the Hooker 2 inch chassis headers that went around the outside of the frame on the rear tubes.

That looks like the aftermath of ethanol fuel rotting away in it. Fortunately, we can still get straight premium up here, but some of my friends are cheap ass's and run the crap stuff and then have issues with the fuel system every spring cause of the moisture that condenses from sitting in storage. You could try to save it, but if it was me, I would move on to something else. Keep up the progress! Larry

Yes sir. Block, crank, and rods. Funny thing, those plugs that covered the bolts that held the oil filter adapter on, are 3/8npt, they fit the holes where the cooler lines came off :D it's like GM intended it that way ;)
