I set the block and transmission in the car. I still need to make sure the transmission is centered, then I should be able to tack in the Z bar bracket, then see if I can remove the bar with the engine still in place.

  3. @squirrel Jim your fire wall hole reminded me of the video Lloyd posted for me. Any one can restore a vette it takes a real man to cut one up:D:p

I’ve had many flywheels drilled for B&B and Long but never both B&B’s

It's a hacked up old race car but I'm having a blast with it:D

yeah, it's different! but I checked the new clutch today, it fits the smaller bolt pattern, so I think it'll work. Might be a bit heavy, but with mild rear gears that will probably help.

Lose that heavy iron Ansen and get a Lakewood housing, has the same mount as the factory aluminum(which sell for absurd money) for that bracket; it sits a bit further back. I have seen this movie...
As you probably know, there are few more pieces to this... wait till you hang the return spring.

The over center spring? Yeah, that's supposed to be fun. I have to weld the mounting tab for it to the frame, also.

I had the Lakewood years ago, but unfortunately sold it.

Not that hard. Especially when dash is out.

We’ve broken the welded nuts on a Lakewood. The QuickTime with the welded 1/2” thick plate is way better. If you don’t need a SEMA tag they sell them about $200 less.

  15. You don’t need the over center spring with modern clutches. I've had two of these cars without them, they operate like any old chevy that way.

That's what I was thinking...I never had trouble with clutches in my old trucks, they don't have the extra spring. But I'm going to put the tab on the frame for it, while the engine is out and it's easy to get to.

Congrats. Humble advice from 40 yr 62 owner, don't go overboard on originality thing as I did. In hindsight, upgraded suspension, brakes, 500 HP, 6 spd manual, and yes, even a/c, would of been much wiser, with due respect to NCRS crowd.

Thanks for the tip. I'm trying my best not to go overboard on originality...but I am planning to use the almost original 327 for now, mostly because it came with the car and I don't have to spend much money on it. I am spending some for a few original parts that I'd want no matter what I end up doing with the drivetrain.

I'm willing to take my time and let the car tell me what it wants, after I get it running and get some miles on it. Maybe it wants a big block, maybe a hotter small block, maybe I'll be ok with the mild 327 and Muncie, we'll see. And I'm usually OK with stock suspension and brakes on old cars, I don't mind driving old cars, and we have a new car I can drive if I want to drive something that's "perfect".

All of this clutch and corvette talk just reminded me of a buddies car. It is a 61 and has a blown small block in it. Not sure it has ran in years, but I remember back in the late 80's when the car was my buddies dads and a clutch disk made it's way out of the ****ter shield and also went through my buddies Chevelle quarter panel when they were racing just north of town. Had to be a somewhat scary deal for both my buddy and his dad at the time.

If you really want to shake things up Squirrel, you should paint a pinstripe around that newly drilled hole. :D

Back in 07 Jim told a member “a real man doesn’t use a helper spring”.

Yup, 46 year old Jim felt that way. We'll see how 62 year old Jim feels when he gets it put together!

After driving the weird cars around on LeMons rallys over the past few years, you'd think I can deal with just about anything. Which is probably true. But I also ended up selling them all after spending too much time in the seat, and I don't really want that to happen with this car.
