What would be a good material to use up inside the wheel wells /up inside fenders, for noise reduction of road noise. Something budget friendly is always good.
gonna see a lot of moisture and **** there. I don't necessarily recommend it since it really doesn't kill all that much sound (but it does help) but that bubble stuff from home depot that comes in rolls will work-with spray glue. The shiny stuff with an aluminum cover over the bubbles.
Road noise? How about changing to less noisy tires? Do you need an undercoater for rust prevention, something that's just cosmetic (and can be painted over?), or a protective layer that would prevent "outies" in your fenders from flying rocks / road debris? Personally, I like the 3M brand rubberized spray. But it provides less outie protection than coatings intentionally made for that purpose. It sprays on easy, looks great and I believe it is paintable.
Some kind of rubberized undercoating or maybe spray on bed liner should do the trick. The bed liner stuff can be put on pretty thick, I think the stuff in my late model truck bed is over 1/16 in thick or thicker in places. Bad thing is it adds weight, how much depends on how thick it’s applied.

Road noise tends to come from the suspension through the ch***is. Sound deadening in the cab works best.
Be prepared to "touch up" the black rubberized spray undercoating every couple of years. The black tends to turn brown after a couple years, and dirt on the road surfaces tend to sandblast the area in line with the tire tread. Its pretty cheap though.
Hello, When we got the new 58 black Impala, the first thing our friend in Los Angeles told us was to come up and get a full underbody/frame undercoating. He knew we were coastal kids and that we usually went to the beach. Salt water and untreated frames/steel panels are not the best companions. Whether it is full immersion in salt water like boat launching or small puddles left over from a high tide splurge. Salt water and metal don't play nicely together. So, we were sent to a guy in an old gas station in the area. He was a one man shop and knew his stuff. he put the Impala up on the rack and had access to the whole undercarriage areas. He even took off the wheels and tires to make sure he got every inch of the untreated or somewhat treatment from the factory. The factory spray was minimal to say the least. He took a small screwdriver to show how easily that application from the factory comes off. Some of the frame and other areas were plain steel, already starting to show a little rust. He took his time doing the big hose spraying of this thick black gooey stuff. it covered everything, including the wheel wells. He had taped up the necessary items and motor that he did not want to spray. But for everything else, it was black, thick and solid when dry. It smelled something awful. He told us that the smell will go away after a week or so. So, dating and cruising around was put on hold for a couple of weeks. Jnaki The 348 motor was loud when full acceleration performance runs were done at Lion’s Dragstrip. But, with the thick sprayed on undercoating, the road grime sound was lessened tremendously when the windows were rolled up. On the street, the little gravel rocks that used to ping on the wheel arch and wells did not sound like anything. The whole driveway and pits area was a field of gravel and the street leading in and out of the Lion’s Dragstrip entrance was always littered with gravel bits. What I can say, is that every car we owned during that time period, Flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, 58 Impala, 65 El Camino all got the heavy duty sprayed on undercoating. Even our dad’s Buicks got the undercoating application. There was no spray can undercoating at the time. To do the same professional job application, 30+ cans would have to be used for the many thicker layers necessary. The sprays are not as good as the “real” thing, a thick application of undercoating on everything. photo VNak Some friends sprayed on black or white paint to do what the real thick undercoat spray did. Protect the bare metal. But, it usually did not last long. We could still hear gravel rocks hitting the wheel arch every time, with the painted surfaces, including drive-in theater roads and pathways. So, if there is a place near you that still does industrial spray on undercoating, that is your best bet. The modern spray on truck bed coatings are good and if they could be sprayed on industrially, on top, why not underneath? For that application, they could spray on the thickest coats possible. The auto parts spray on cans are minimal at best and industrial spray on coatings are the answer to the noise problem as well as protection for your metal surfaces underneath. YRMV Note: On the insider rear cab area, many different noise suppressant applications are available as a stick on product(s). As for the front fender, well, that is why one sprays underneath with the thick undercoating full coverage. The thick spray makes less road noise and less from the engine compartment, as little as possible.
when i worked on my 2500 GMC van, i used dyna-mat over the wheel wells (inside, and body). i swear i could hear a mouse fart in that thing.
On the wife's new off topic BrXco, I freaked out when I saw what Ford is now using to quiet down road noise and pebbles and the like being thrown around. It is a rubberized carpet looking stuff that snaps into the wheel wells! I thought it was a stoopid idea at first but after living with it it for about 9000 miles I think it may be a cool way to go. It's pretty invisible on this car and you can spray it off and clean it up as necessary. Probably form fitted to the wheel well, and able to snap off for servicing ( I would only hope) Might be worth a look see. I just spent time and money and not done yet getting rid of old undercoat on my car, I hate the way that stuff looks!
My Olds will never rust out in the *** due to the heavy rubberized undercoating courtesy of my MT drag tires. Of course, my exhaust pipes are also permanently coated as well.

It's been quite common on new cars for a while now. It's an invented use for recycled plastic, and another way to hide stuff deemed none of our business.
Is the Stoneguard Grey basically the same product? Small difference in size, but not sure what the "SMS" stands for, and if the omission of those three letters from the grey is significant or not.
SKS is water based. Ive used both bed liner and SKS on floors. In my opinion SKS is better. Raptor is hard. Not the best for a sound deadener. Being water based the clean up is easier. Plus the fumes are much less. No hardener involved.
I used the 3M stone guard on the sills (rockers) on an early Holden ute that was an everyday driver for 18 years. I also used it as a bed liner. Carried a lot of parts and **** around and it held up well. A squirt of acrylic lacquer over it if looked tired. I'd say if you want to use it as a sound deadened in the wheel wells you might be better off buying an electric car. You're driving the wrong type of vehicle.
Lots of stuff suggested here won't do much for sound reduction, but are great for protection. Modern Euro cars (last 15 years maybe) often have a weird fuzzy carpet-like stuff in the wheel wells. It's disgusting when wet, but it sure works! Those are certainly quiet cars. I haven't seen the fender liners on the new broncos, but it sounds like they took a page from the euro playbook.
