Old Oceanside Pier in So Cal... near Camp Pendleton.

    Hello,

Oceanside is a great place. One of the nicest beaches along this portion of San Diego County. The fun thing about being in Oceanside is that the viewing road runs along the white sand from the northern end all the way South past where the sand and rocky shoreline meet. It runs about 1.5 miles along the white sandy shoreline. It is as close to the water as a road can get for the ocean view and sandy beach views.

The sandy shoreline all along the coastline used to be wider, from the waterline to the normal high tide markers. But over time, the weather, storms from the North/South that bring the sand flow down the coast has gotten less and in turn the shoreline is narrower for most cities.

Sometimes, cities that constructed little breakwater jetties have prevented or at least slowed down the flow and the white sand seems to stay a little longer in place. But, those jetties have also created a new pattern farther down the coast for other beach locations.

Note: Oceanside and other coastal cities have their problems with shifting sands. But, it is a great beach location and is the first city along the coast after the long I-5 freeway and coastline that is known as Camp Pendleton. The city itself is still a funky area and one big draw is the famous house that was shown in the original “Top Gun” movie. The ocean views, sunset aura, the fast motorcycle, and classic Victorian style house all played their parts in the 1986 movie.

If you want to see the next house in So Cal from the new & latest “Top Gun” movie, you will have to drive North at least 90 miles to a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in San Pedro, CA. YRMV
