    Rustoleum Sunshine Yellow.

  7. I wanted mine to look like a fresh "pull" from a wrecked Sting Ray, so it hadda be orange.. plus, it worked as a contrast to the blue and a complement to the flames. That said, it's obvious from the pics and comments here, that they look pretty darn good in most any colour that works with the car it's in.

Detroit diesel alpine green. I had a 327 66 Chevy c10. Confused the hell out of people, even with the high torque 327 stickers $_1.jpeg

Any colour would do, nobody will notice another sbc anyways.

What color will the car be ? Not suggesting you use the same color, because the engine needs to stand apart from the body color somewhat. You can paint it any color (depending on car color) and make it look good.
I like darker colors as they don't require as much cleaning. I like Black if certain things are done to contrast it rather than just a big Black blob. Reds seem to be the most common/popular, but its still about the added detailing if you want your exposed engine to stand out.

Also, I think it looks better if you have less "clutter" surrounding the engine. If possible, mounting the alternator and the a/c compressor low on the sides and carefully routing lines and wires goes a long way toward having a nice looking engine.

  15. If it is a '32 chebbie paint it orange and tell everyone it was the original vettte prototype:eek:. If it is a '32 Ford:mad: no one cares about a sbc in it.

I second that, Black engines always look dirty and greasy to me even when they are spotless.

I remember back in the 60's I asked my mom and sister to pick up a specific color of engine paint for my engine as it was close to the original color and they came back with black because they would match or corridnate better with the color of the car than the actual engine color .

  19. It really doesn't matter the car or the engine, but in a non-restoration setting it should either match the body color, or a nice contrasting color. To me the original color of the engine is irrelevant.

So, we need more information of the color pallet of your 32 to make a good recommendation.

They've been that 'Chevy Orange' for years, I can remember back in '56 looking into the engine compartment of Kent Onlan's '40 Ford coupe: "Hey, it's got a Chevy in it!"
    It was...real different.
Mine in my F100's black, some glitter... Lots of 'careful comments'. (grrrr)

My 40 & deuce pickup are shades of Ford green and the motors are Chevy orange, My 3 window and roadster are black as are the motors, My new deuce sedan has dark maroon accented chassis parts and the motor is painted to match.

I'm a tad late on responding to this one but Dan makes what is probably the most valid point as far as hot rod engine color goes. It just flat ass has to look right in that engine compartment. It isn't what color as much as it just looks right for that car and the color of that car.

The 32 that Heyitsnate posted in post 52, what does your eye catch first, Whole car, engine or ? If you look at a car for the first time and don't see the complete car as a single unit and your eye goes to one component first that component is wrong for that car in some way. That was the color of the SBC in a truck. Yes it confuses people.

  27. Do a fade starting with white at the front, into yellow, into orange, into red, into deep red at the back.

I've been building sbc engines since '63 and always painted them Chevy Orange, why not it's traditional. I currently have three running cars, a '32 3W, a '32 Roadster and a '55 Delray. All are sbc powered and all the engines are Chevy Orange.

Paint the engine black and the frame orange.o_O

What's the other colors being used on the car ? Is the frame black or body color ? Should the engine stand out or blend into the rest of the build ?
