Hot Rods Blower safety

  1. There was a tragic accident this weekend at Milan Dragway. A funny car did its burnout then started to back up. I'm very good friends with the family. They said a bolt behind the ****erflies that hold down the injector came loose and fell into the blower. The rotor pushed the bolt outside the case creating a very large hole. The rush of incoming air sent the engine instantly to 10 grand. The car raced backward hitting the crew and the car in the water box. The drivers grandfather died from his injuries. The family is devastated. If you don't have a screen between your hat and blower get one. I have one on the shelf. Before I race again it will be on the car. Rocks or any debrie can enter the blower without a air filter.

sounds a terrible accident, condolences to the family

I have always wondered though how there are so many strict rules for racing, yet folks are still allowed to stand only a few feet away from, only a semi controlled, m***ive explosion?

I am not surprised there isn't more incidents [and Fatalities] like that.

WTF is wrong with this picture????? [below]
    upload_2023-6-12_19-57-41.png

Nearly empty stands vs all the "self important" unnecessary wannabes hanging around the start line.
The sanctioning body needs to face a huge lawsuit ,then they'll stop letting this happen.

This is "Sanctioned" drag racing ,not "Street Outlaws"

I'm like you. Never happy with this look. A disaster in the making. I couldn't concentrate with that many ****ers nearby.

I am very saddened to hear of this tragic accident.
This type of scenario and just how quickly this happened, will surely send a signal to all of the drag racing world, how important it is, to have a screen on the blower!

That's sad. Had almost the same thing happen at a track near here last year. Car was fixing to back up, driver blipped the throttle to clean it out, somehow the throttle stuck and it went into reverse at the same time, running over a team mate. Don't know if it was driver error or equipment malfunction or both. Same result, a person lost their life.
