I'm going to convert my mechanical brakes on my 31 Model A to hydraulic.
For the front, I've got square back spindles and 46-48 brakes and for the rear, 1940 brakes. I'm also going to run 1935 wires.
Is all that is required to run these wheels the adaptor ring or do I need spacers as well?
I'm thinking of turning the rear backing plates upside down instead of redrilling the holes to slant the backing plates for spring to wheel cylindure clearance. Will this cause a big problem in bleeding the brakes?

  4. If you mount the backing plates upside down, remount the wheel cylinders so they are still right side up, even though they are at the bottom. Pay attention to big bore direction and length of the shoes. Leading shoe is now to the rear.
It is a lot easier to just cut a notch in the backing plate to clear the spring hanger and mount everything in the normal fashion.

When I built an A years ago I made a tool to put a very tight bend out of the rear brake line so I did not have to change the backing plate mount.

The plan is to use a Boling Brothers setup. I would prefer to use a dual master cylinder if one is available.

I'm confused about the notch. It seems that the end of the spring mount and the wheel cylinder butt into each other creating a problem for the brake line coming out of the cylinder. Brakes 050.jpg

any pictures, sounds like the easiest way to go except I'd probably screw the bend up.

  8. That unit looks good. Be careful there are similar looking units out there built with thinner gage metal. They are cheaper but they flex. You get what you pay for.

Dad and I fabbed a bracket to mount a dual MC to the bolling borthers. That’s a Leeds 4 drum MC. Super easy fix for safety and it’s rock solid. Bolling doesn’t sell their box with a dual, nor do they sell a bracket so we made one.
