Last year I bought a 59 Edsel, then a few months ago I came across a 61 Studebaker Lark. Then a few other cars in between a 61 Valiant and a 66 Rambler Classic. It seems like I'm buying a lot of odd ball stuff., but ever since I got working in the film industry and working with picture cars my feeling about cars has changed. I now view them as tools to make money. If I can't rent it, I no use for it. I sold my ranchero because theres no way there going to rent a flamed up custom car. I feel bad that this is how I have gotten and I need to get back in enjoying cars. I set my sights on buying a hot rod, but not spending the crazy money. Well every morning I cruise the local selling sites, just looking for my next car and there is a 26 Ford T, the price seemed ridiculously low, in my head I'm thinking this guy obviously made a mistake. I call the guy and Its no mistake. The best thing is the car is only 25 minutes away. The guy said he had other people coming but cash talks and bullshit walks. I got dressed grabbed some cash and was on my way. The 25 minutes felt like forever. I got there and made the deal. Now that I've gone on long enough here it is.
I'm trying to figure out a appropriate build date. It has a bunch of mixed parts from different eras. But 80s 90s I would think. It needs work but originally when built it was done right. Its not as old school as I would like, but its definitely not over modern either.
I bought a '26 T Tudor that looked very much like yours, 1963. Lighter shade, ('candy blue') very clean. Reversed Merc wheels all around, '46 Merc flathead. Mor-Drop Dago axle, ('33-'36 I beam) split wishbones, '39 box, '40 rear. Car was built on a '30 'A' frame,, 'T' rear spring. Resemblance to yours (at a glance) is amazing. (SO Right!) Flathead had all the goodies, but I tore it down...Block was a worn out stocker! I had a 304" Merc I swung in there. Yours was a steal, that SBF fits like a glove. Kudos!
It seems to be a very well built car. From what I was told the owner, (not sure if he was the builder) had died. The person I bought the car from inherited the car. When he got the car it was not running and not stored properly. The wood in the roof was starting to rot and the body started to rust. He spent alot of money geting it running, did the brakes and put new tires on. He put it on the road and had big plans. Well four years later he lost interest and decided to sell it and I was lucky enough to get there first.
I got a buyers package for the T, its mandatory here to be able to transfer the owership (title). It shows all registered owners and dates of transfers. The first date it was registered was 1989. This at least answers to the build date, it was 34 years ago.
