I’ll keep this short and sweet. Been fighting ignition issues in my current Flathead powered daily driver for weeks. (The F1) And after replacing a number of things it occurred to me that I’ve never once touched the points. Cracked open the Mallory dual point that Bruce gave me years… or decades? ago. And there inside were his hand written specs and notes. (He did this with nearly everything he gifted me) It was one of those happy and sad moments. Leave it to Bruce to help keep another Flathead running long after he moved on. I’m so fortunate to have known him.
That's dirt in my eye man! I swear to God it is! That's so cool, the world is running out of those special kinda guys.
So, what did you find when you looked at the points? I look and set mine every spring and give the dist cam a little lube..... every spring....
The suspense is so thick you could cut it with a knife. And now.....the rest of the story. Paul Harvey. ....Good day
Something I remember... Back in the day, Every now and then, someone would post a technical question up here on the Hamb and everyone would go back and forth with their opinion on what to do. Then Bruce would chime in and everyone would shut down, end of thread, because yeah... it has now been spoken.
Bruce was always willing to help anyone and he was a walking, talking encyclopedia when it came to Fords. HRP
And that is why we love old cars. Old original stuff is a link to a time and place and sometimes a specific person that you just don't get with a new Ho#da. -Abone.
Bruce's legacy will live on from now on. I was looking up an answer for someone in a flathead group on fb the other day and the search took me to the Ford barn where Bruce had given a well detailed answer to a very similar question several years.
I bet he’s grinning from ear to ear right now. How cool he’s still able to help. In both his written word and occasionally with his parts. I wonder what ever happen to his collection of fords, parts and literature. I miss him.
10-30-2019. Rest in Peace, Sir. One of the most knowledgeable, but humble, people to ever grace the HAMB and Fordbarn. Anything with his name on it was required reading. You are missed.
I missed that he passed, when I saw the title of the thread I thought that I hadn't seen him post for a while (a long while it turns out!)
FWIW one set was probably opening at .005 and the other at more or less nill. Cleaned with emory paper and set to .020 per Bruce and it’s all been running great since.
Bruce was a very knowledgeable person. I enjoyed spending time with him when he would stop at my space at various swap meets. It was indeed an honor and pleasure to speak with him. From Bruce, you got the true information, not BS. And yes, he is sorely missed.
Man, that's so great! Barely a day goes by without me thinking of Bruce and how much he's changed my life.
