Hi guys, the rotor in my y block is a loose fit, moves backwards and forwards roughly 3/8 ". I bought a new one today hoping for a snug fit but it is the same. The shaft has a stepdown at the top, is there a clip or something I am missing ? It also drops a cylinder at times, but not sure this is related. Any ideas ?
    Thanks. Gary

Is the shaft turning as well, or the rotor turning on the shaft?

Make sure you’re getting the correct rotor for your distributor. The ‘57 and up distributors (vacuum/mechanical advance) use a different rotor than the ‘56 and earlier Load-O-Matics. I’m not sure if New Zealand and Australia Y-blocks received the distributor design change in ‘57 as the US Y-blocks. You’ll have to check to see what you have. Let us (or me) know if you need any help IDing your distributor! :)

Just the rotor, shaft seems tight enough but has a step at the top. It's almost like there should be a spring type clip to keep it tight ?

Mine is U.S built, has the 12200 style rotor. have just had a look in my Dennis carpenter catalog and it shows a piece between the rotor and shaft, part # 12213 but it is not listed, could be what I need ? I also have a 57 312 and the distributor is quite different to my F100 one, different style rotor.

Ok, probably solved it. There is a clip that is missing the 12213 retainer clip. Will try my old Ford parts guy over here to see if he can supply one. Thanks for the replies guys.
